Natalia Mayorga Wins Second Career MAC Diver of the Week Award
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -- For the second time in her career, Natalia Mayorga has earned MAC Diver of the Week honors.
The sophomore earned a clean sweep of all three diving events at the Miami Classic last weekend competing in a competitive field with divers from Ball State, host Miami and Cincinnati. She started off the Friday portion of competition with a 3-meter victory that netted a score of 295.50 despite placing third in the prelims.
On Saturday, Mayorga dominated again as she then won the 1-meter and tower (also known as platform) diving competitions. Just like in the 3-meter, she stormed back from a fourth-place prelim finish for the victory in the finals with a score of 272.25. Then in the tower dive, which takes 10 meters above the water on a stationary plank that is not often competed but is an NCAA Championships event, Mayorga shined as she earned a mark of 234.08 that earned her what is believed to be the program's first-ever NCAA Zone Diving cut in the event.
Earlier this season, Mayorga earned NCAA Zone Diving cuts in both the 1 and 3-meter competitions as well. Her Zone cut in the 3-meter at Akron back in November helped her win her first-career MAC Diver of the Week honor.
