- Apr 177:30 PMThe Moon Speakers Series - The Moon in Native and Colonial Mexican CultureJoin us in the Planetarium for a public talk titled The Moon in Native and Colonial Mexican Culture, presented by Dr. Amílcar Challú, Chair and Associate Professor, BGSU Department of History.Join us for a journey to find the reflections of the Moon on Mexican identity, beliefs, and creativity. In this talk we will explore the celestial deities of the Mexica, the indigenous and Catholic symbolisms in the image of the Virgin of Guadalupe, and sophisticated astronomical knowledge behind the poetry of Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz.This program is one of six sessions hosted by the BGSU Planetarium on a wide range of interdisciplinary topics, each with a connection to astronomy. Programs in the series will be every Thursday evening starting March 13 and running through April 17. “The Moon Speakers Series” events are free and open to the public.This talk will also be available to livestream via zoom at https://bgsu-edu.zoom.us/j/4287586258
