NPHC was founded in 1930 at Howard University in Washington, D.C., with the purpose of fostering unity and cooperation among its member organizations and advocating for the interests of Black college students. In this session, you’ll begin with a brief introduction to autism fundamentals, then engage in an interactive panel discussion featuring autistic individuals and their allies.Through direct dialogue with panelists, you’ll hear personal stories, challenge assumptions, and explore topics like autism history, reframing autistic characteristics, and supportive strategies. You’ll have the chance to reflect, ask questions, and gain practical ideas for creating more inclusive and supportive environments—whether in the workplace, classroom, or broader community.By participating in this session, you will be able to:Identify and compare current misconceptions about autism with historical stigmas, and explain their impact on the autistic community. Recognize and reframe commonly misunderstood autistic traits—such as stimming or sensory needs—through a strengths-based, neurodiversity-informed lens. Apply at least three supportive strategies shared by panelists to make your workplace, school, or community more inclusive.
