- Feb 411:00 AMReckoning with Remembrance: Interpreting the Life and Legacy of Emmett Till at the Smithsonian's National Museum of American HistoryJoin us for our Black History Month Guest Lecture, hosted by the Department of History at BGSU.Dr. Modupe Labode is the Curator of the Division of Political History in the African American History Curatorial Collective at the National Museum of American History, Smithsonian Institute.She will present: "Reckoning with Remembrance: Interpreting the Life and Legacy of Emmett Till at the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History." Her talk will focus on the interpretation of a vandalized historical marker commemorating the site where Emmett TIll's body was recovered from the Tallahatchie River in 1955. The talk will focus on the exhibition team's ongoing relationship with the communities in Mississippi that created historical markers for the sites related to Emmett Till's life and legacy in MIssissippi. She will focus on practices of Restorative History and the meaning of interpreting Black history in a general history museum.This lecture is free and open to the public.
