Students frequently ask librarians for help interpreting assignments during individual appointments and chat interactions. The presenters will use their experience translating research jargon to reveal one obstacle to student success: unclear research assignments. In this workshop, you will critique an assignment and learn practical strategies and resources to clarify key research terms and concepts. In this session, you willIllustrate how the variety of definitions and meanings in research-related terminology frustrates and confuses students.Identify confusing, unclear, or outdated research terminology in assignment prompts.Critique a research assignment for outdated or unclear research terminology.Revise an existing research assignment to include modern research processes and clear research terminology.To register for this event, use the Fall 2024 University Libraries CFE Session Registration Form.Advance registration is required. Neurodivergent is a term used to describe anyone whose mind functions in ways that differ from societal standards of "normal." Some examples include Autism, ADHD, learning disabilities, and mental illnesses. Formal diagnosis is not required to participate. Those who are questioning a neurodivergent identity are welcome.This group aims to provide students with a place to share their struggles, give and receive support from others, and discuss their lived experiences without having to mask who they are. Each session will start with check-ins and introductions.
