- Feb 411:30 AMReckoning with Remembrance: Interpreting the Life and Legacy of Emmett Till at the Smithsonian's National Museum of American HistoryJoin us for our Black History Month Guest Lecture, hosted by the Department of History at BGSU.Dr. Modupe Labode is the Curator of the Division of Political History in the African American History Curatorial Collective at the National Museum of American History, Smithsonian Institute.She will present: Reckoning with Remembrance: Interpreting the Life and Legacy of Emmett Till at the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History. Her talk will focus on the interpretation of a vandalized historical marker commemorating the site where Emmett Till's body was recovered from the Tallahatchie River in 1955. The talk will focus on the exhibition team's ongoing relationship with the communities in Mississippi that created historical markers for the sites related to Emmett Till's life and legacy in Mississippi. She will focus on practices of Restorative History and the meaning of interpreting Black history in a general history museum.This lecture is free and open to the public.Guests can explore the exhibit online at the Smithsonian's website here

Its goals are to increase awareness of LGBTQ+ people and issues, create gender-inclusive change on campus and in society, and form an understanding of the impact of intersectionality on identities and systems. The project aims to improve the climate for LGBTQ+ individuals at BGSU and make allies visible and involved with LGBTQ+ students, faculty, and staff.In this session, you will:Clarify your understanding of basic/intermediate LGBTQ+-related definitions. Develop and/or advance your understanding of socialization. Clarify your understanding of gender identity, gender expression, sex assigned at birth, and various orientations. Learn about US LGBTQ+ policies/law, specifically in the state of Ohio. Identify job-relevant behaviors and techniques rooted in allyship. Develop an action plan.
