Falcons Test Themselves Against Top Competition at Virginia Challenge
FINAL RESULTS CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. –
Facing top competition continued for the BGSU track & field program at the University of Virginia's Virginia Challenge this weekend.After six distance runners competed at "the nation's fastest and largest collegiate meet" in Azusa Pacific's Bryan Clay Invitational, Falcon sprinters, jumpers and throwers participated in one of the most competitive two-day meets on the east coast held at Lannigan Field.
The Friday section of the meet was highlighted by DaMya Barker's seventh place finish in the 400m hurdles (1:02.22). In the 100m, Kiersten Franklin (11.85) and Alexis Parchman (17th) each finished in the top 20.
Trista Fintel put together a 15.86-meter throw in the shot put that placed her fourth in the competition. The graduate transfer from Findlay had the fifth best performance in BGSU history with her toss.
To round out the throwers, Lane Anderson (13.06m) and Sierra Brinson (12.61m) participated in the shot put while Kami Baker (49.83m) took 21st in the hammer throw.
In just her second collegiate meet, Jaden Carey tied for fifth in the open section of the high jump with a leap of 1.64m.
Bianca Staples (1.65m) and Katherine Mendenhall (1.65m) each placed in the top 15 in the invite portion of the event as well.
Morgan Patterson took 14th in the long jump (5.74m) to round out the first day of competition.
On a sunny Saturday afternoon, Patterson raced out to a tenth-place finish in the 100m hurdles in a time of 13.79 (2.8 wind). Barker (14.39) and Christabelle Obi (14.63) also participated.
Sabrina Imes took eighth in the triple jump with a PR of 12.68m, while Staples placed 13th (12.05m).
Franklin ran a 24.29 in the 200m to take 11th, while Parchman (24.71) and Reagan Campbell (24.81) also competed in the event.
Campbell was the Falcons' top performer in the 400m (57.56). She also led off the 4x400m and along with Barker, Obi and Franklin took 14th (3:51.63).
The 4x100m relay quartet of Patterson, Parchman, Erinae Coleman and Franklin ran the event in 45.76 seconds, which placed them third.
