Lucas and Fintel Compete at Ashland's Jud Logan Light Giver Invitational
ASHLAND, Ohio -- One of Jud Logan's traits of a "Light Giver" was someone who instills belief in those around them.
Slowly fighting her way back from an injury this season, Jenna Lucas infused the confidence and fire within herself and others that she will be a force at the MAC Championships later this month in the pentathlon. The junior placed fifth in the event with a score of 3,429 at Ashland's Jud Logan Light Giver Invitational named in honor of the four-time Olympic hammer thrower and former Eagles head track & field coach as a "torch" of his legacy.
Competing in one of the most difficult events in track & field that consists of 60m hurdles, high jump, shot put, long jump and an 800m run, Lucas notched 13th or better in each event.
Last year's third-place finisher in the pentathlon at the MAC Championships placed eighth in the 60m hurdles (9.25), 11th in the high jump (1.56m), second in the shot put (12.55m), 10th in the long jump (5.12m) and 13th in the 800m (2:38.31).
Katherine Mendenhall also competed in the pentathlon, but recorded a DNS (did not start) in the 800m which was the final event and ultimately nullified her score.
Trista Fintel was the other Falcon who competed at the fourth-annual meet. Throwing on the 80-yard infield turf of the three-year-old Niss Athletic Center, the graduate student transfer from Findlay tossed a weight throw of 19.18m, which placed fourth in the "elite" section of competition and improved upon her top 10 mark in program history in the event.
Fintel competed against her old Findlay teammate, Kelsey Kennon, in the event and became just the eighth Falcon thrower to ever toss further than 19 meters in the weight throw.
