The Falcons will be hosting the annual Bill Frack Game, completed with an on-court recognition before the game. Additionally, it will be the Alumni Day for the Falcons with a halftime recognition of the program's alumni in attendance.
A Bowling Green Win Would…
- Push the Falcons above .500 within the Mid-American Conference with a 3-2 MAC record while being 8-9 on the season and 6-3 at home.
- Give the Orange and Brown six consecutive home wins over Eastern Michigan, dating back to Feb. 10, 2018.
- Grant Bowling Green back-to-back wins for the second time this season, consecutive home wins for the second time and back-to-back MAC wins for the first time.
Thomas Catching Fire
During MAC play, Trey Thomas has caught fire for the Falcons from the field. For the non-conference schedule, Thomas was averaging 7.9 points per game with an average of 1.5 threes per game. However, since MAC play started, Thomas is averaging 18.3 points per game with 3.3 triples per game, including two 20-point games. The strong start for Thomas has him ranked fourth in the MAC for scoring average during conference play.
Scouting The Eagles
Eastern Michigan enters the weekend in a similar position as the Falcons on the season, holding a 7-9 overall record while being 1-3 within the MAC. EMU's lone conference win came in their MAC opener at home over NIU, 75-71. Since then, the Eagles have dropped three straight in conference play, falling to Toledo, 90-87, Akron, 105-81, and Central Michigan, 82-63. As for non-conference contests, BGSU and EMU both faced Davidson. BGSU hosted Davidson, falling 91-85, while EMU went to the Wildcats, losing 86-64.
BGSU vs. Eastern Michigan, All-Time
The Falcons and Eagles will be meeting for the 102nd time in program history, dating back to the 1916 campaign. Bowling Green holds the advantage in the series with a 57-44 record, including a 35-15 standing when hosting Eastern Michigan. The Eagles claimed the last game between the two, being played in Ypsilanti, that snapped a series-best nine-game winning streak for the Falcons. One streak that remains active is consecutive wins at home for BGSU over EMU, taking the last five inside the Stroh Center against the Eagles.
Two Falcons Hit 1,000 Points
Two Falcons have now reached 1,000 career points this season. Derrick Butler was the first to do so, surpassing the mark on Dec. 21 against St. Thomas. Trey Thomas then joined the list on Tuesday (Jan. 14) against Buffalo. This is the second consecutive season that Bowling Green has had multiple players hit the mark. Last year, both Rashaun Agee and Jason Spurgin eclipsed 1,000 career points. Agee hit the mark against Hampton on Dec. 19 while Spurgin did so against Central Michigan in the MAC Tournament. The next closest Falcon is DaJion Humphrey with 937 career points.
Falcon Defense Behind The Arc
So far this season, Bowling Green has established themselves as one of the best teams in the MAC against the three-point shot. The Falcons have allowed teams to shoot just 30.1-percent behind the arc, leading the MAC and ranking 48th in the nation. Against MAC opponents, the number has improved for the Falcons to allowing teams to shoot just 26.5-percent from deep, going 30-of-113 from three against BGSU.
Campbell On Record-Breaking Pace
Javontae Campbell has established himself among the best in the nation for steals. Campbell is averaging 3.25 steals per game, ranking third in the nation, and has totaled 52 steals, the fourth-most in the country. Campbell needs just nine to break into BGSU's top 10 for a single season. At his current pace with 31 games on BGSU's schedule, Campbell is on pace to tally 100 steals during the regular season. The current BGSU single-season steals record is set at 82 by DeMar Moore in 1996-97. As for the MAC steals record, it's held by Ball State's Bonzi Wells with 103 during the 1997-98 campaign. Postseason play would count towards both records.
Felt On Way To MAC Leaderboard
Jamai Felt has been a defensive force for the Falcons this season. Despite averaging just over 15 minutes per game, Felt has tallied 21 blocks for the Falcons. The number has his average per game up to 1.3, ranking second in the MAC behind only Ohio's AJ Clayton at 1.9. As for MAC play, Felt has been matching Clayton's totals, both with 11 blocks in four MAC games, tied for the conference lead at 2.8 blocks per game. Felt tallied four blocks against both Western Michigan and Buffalo.
