BGSU Tennis Returns Home for Match Against Youngstown State

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green Falcons will return home for a Friday afternoon match against the Youngstown State Penguins. The match is scheduled to begin at 1 pm in Perrysburg, Ohio. BGSU will be hosting the Penguins for the first time since the 2022-23 season.
Last Time Out
Last weekend, the Orange and Brown went 2-0 with wins on the road against Eastern Illinois and Bradley. Over the course of the weekend, the Falcons did not give up a point in match play going a combined 11-0 against the two opponents. Against the Panther, BGSU started off winning the doubles point, taking No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. Sophomore Qianyu Liu clinched the sweep and win for the Falcons (2-6, 6-3, 6-2). On Sunday morning against the Bradley Braves, BGSU took a 2-0 lead with an injury to a Bradley player, which gave the Falcons the No.3 doubles and No. 6 singles. The Orange and Brown clinched the doubles point winning No.2 doubles (6-2). BGSU followed up the double's success taking the No.1- No. 6 singles. Freshman Konstantina Adamopolou clinched the win for the Falcons (6-1, 6-0).
Opponent Outlook: Youngstown State
The Penguins are currently 4-4 on the season. Earlier this fall, Bowling Green saw Youngstown State at the Eastern Michigan Invitational. At the fall tournament, the Falcons picked up two doubles wins from Qianyu Liu/Lucia Gaio and Leticia Fonseca/Konstantina Adamopolou over Youngstown State. Last weekend, YSU went 1-2 with two losses to fellow MAC teams Buffalo and Toledo. Starting with Bowling Green, the Penguins will go on a stretch against MAC opponents (Bowling Green, Western Michigan and Ball State) thru the end of February.
Series History: Youngstown State
The Falcons and Penguins will be meeting for the 18th time in program history, with BGSU holding a 14-3 record. The Orange and Brown hold a 12-1 record at home and are on a three-match home win streak against the Penguins. The last time these two programs met in Youngstown, Ohio., on Feb. 11, 2024, YSU came away with a 6-1 victory.
