BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Bowling Green's Mike and Jan Wilcox Head Football Coach Eddie George has been named one of 128 Modern-Era nominees for the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2026.

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Bowling Green's Mike and Jan Wilcox Head Football Coach Eddie George has been named one of 128 Modern-Era nominees for the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2026.

George, who has twice been a semifinalist (2022, 2024), enjoyed a decorated nine-year NFL career with the Tennessee Titans (formerly Oilers) and the Dallas Cowboys. A four-time Pro Bowl selection, George rushed for 10,441 career yards and is the franchise's all-time leading rusher with 10,009 yards. He is the only running back in league history to record 300 or more carries in eight consecutive seasons. Alongside Jim Brown, George stands as one of only two running backs in NFL history to eclipse 10,000 rushing yards without missing a single start.

During his eight-year career with the Titans from 1996–2003, George never missed a game, starting all 128 contests. He rushed for over 1,000 yards seven times, recorded 36 career 100-yard games, and helped lead Tennessee to four playoff appearances, including the Super Bowl XXXIV run and two AFC Championship Games. His best season came in 2000, when he totaled 1,509 rushing yards, 16 touchdowns, and six 100-yard games for the 13-3 Titans.

On a list of the NFL's all-time rushers, George's average yards per season ranks 7th overall—ahead of five current members of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Widely regarded as one of the most productive running backs of his era, he finished his career with 12,668 all-purpose yards, cementing his place among the league's greats.

"It's such an honor to be considered for the Pro Football Hall of Fame," George has said previously when named semifinalist. "This is not an easy fraternity to get into. Just to be considered for it is an accomplishment unto itself."

Only 10 Heisman Trophy winners have been inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame with Charles Woodson being the last in 2021.

The Pro Football Hall of Fame Selection Committee will now begin the process of narrowing the field of nominees. Later this fall, the list will be reduced to 25 Semifinalists before being pared down again to 15 Modern-Era Player Finalists. The finalists will be discussed at the annual selection meeting ahead of Super Bowl LX. Under Hall of Fame bylaws, the Class of 2026 may include three, four, or five Modern-Era Players.
