BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Bowling Green quarter back Drew Pyne has been named to the Allstate Wuerffel Trophy Preseason Watch List, as announced by the Wuerffel Foundation. Pyne is one of 11 players from the MAC to be named to the Watch List.

College Football's Premier Award for Community Service and one of the most meaningful awards in collegiate sports, The Allstate Wuerffel Trophy is named after Danny Wuerffel, the 1996 Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback from the University of Florida who parlayed his success on the football field into a lifetime of service. The Allstate Wuerffel Trophy embodies Wuerffel's commitment to being a humanitarian, while honoring student-athletes who are inspired to serve others and make positive impacts on society. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Trophy's founding, and the Foundation will recognize the first nineteen recipients throughout the fall season.

Pyne (Gr., New Canaan, Conn.) is entering his first season at Bowling Green after playing at Notre Dame, Arizona State and Missouri. While at Notre Dame, Pyne appeared in 17 games between 2020 and 2022, including 10 starts during the 2022 season. He led the Fighting Irish to an 8-2 record as a starter and finished the regular season ranked No. 20 in the nation in quarterback efficiency. His 2022 campaign included a 4-1 mark against Top 25 opponents, and he completed 22 touchdown passes with a 64.6 percent completion rate.

Among his standout performances at Notre Dame, Pyne threw three touchdown passes at North Carolina, the most by a Notre Dame quarterback in their first road start since 1994. He accounted for five total touchdowns against Navy, including four passing scores in the first half alone. In a primetime showdown against USC, Pyne completed his first 15 pass attempts and finished the night 23-for-26 through the air. His .884 completion percentage in that game ranks second all-time in a single contest in program history, trailing only Steve Beuerlein's mark of .909 set in 1984. Pyne also set a career high with 318 passing yards in that game, his first career 300-yard performance.

In 2023, Pyne transferred to Arizona State, where he appeared in two games before a season-ending injury. While with the Sun Devils, he connected with All-American running back Cam Skattebo on a career-long 52-yard completion against USC. Pyne then spent the 2024 season at Missouri, where he played in six games, including one start—a win over Oklahoma in which he threw for 143 yards and three touchdowns. He completed 49-of-82 pass attempts for 391 yards and three touchdowns on the year, finishing the season with 412 total yards of offense.

Starting last season, the Wuerffel Foundation partnered with Allstate to unify college football's highest community service honors. Eleven of the Watch List nominees will be named to the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team and will be Allstate Wuerffel Trophy semifinalists.

The 2025 Allstate Wuerffel Trophy finalists and recipient will be selected by an illustrious national voting committee, including a fan vote component, and announced on ESPN's Home Depot College Football Awards Show on December 12th. The Allstate Wuerffel Trophy Presentation Gala will take place Jan. 31, 2026, at the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta.
