Bahamas National Team To Welcome Lourawls Nairn Jr. As Head Coach At FIBA AmeriCup
NASSAU, Bahamas - The Bahamas National Team has announced that current BGSU Men's Basketball Associate Head Coach Lourawls Nairn Jr. will serve as the Senior Men's National Team Head Coach at the FIBA AmeriCup. The Cup will take place later this month in Nicaragua, scheduled for August 22-31. The Bahamas will be part of Group A, joined by the United States, Brazil and Uruguay. The first game for the Bahamas will be against the United States on August 23. Following completion of the tournament, Nairn is set to return to Bowling Green and resume his duties as associate head coach.
A native of Nassau, Bahamas, Nairn has been representing his country on the national stage since he was 16. In 2018, he played for the Bahamian Senior National Basketball Team in the 2019 FIBA World Cup Qualifying round. He then played for the Bahamas over the last two summers in the Olympic Qualifying Tournament. During the Olympic Qualifying Tournament, Nairn aided the Bahamas to the final round, appearing in the Olympic qualifying game, coming a win shy of making it to the Olympics.
"I can't put into words what this opportunity means to me," said Nairn. "Anytime you get a chance to represent your country it's a blessing. I'm honored, humbled, and won't take it for granted."
Nairn is currently entering his third season on BGSU's coaching staff, following current head coach Todd Simon to Bowling Green. Nairn joined the Falcons as an assistant coach in 2023-24 before being promoted to Associate Head Coach prior to the 2024-25 campaign. Nairn also worked with Simon before coming to Bowling Green, being on staff for the 2022-23 season at Southern Utah as an assistant coach.
"We are proud of Coach Nairn and the work he has put in to be put in position to lead his national team," said BGSU head coach Todd Simon. "He will do a great job and lead the Bahamas with passion and enthusiasm."
Nairn has previous head coaching experience, serving as the head coach for Sunrise Christian Academy in 2021-22, a postgraduate men's basketball team. In his lone season at the helm of the program, Nairn led the team to a 21-win season and an Elite Eight appearance in the National Prep Tournament. The stop with Sunrise Christian Academy was Nairn's final before joining Simon at SUU.
