MUNICH, Germany – The Bowling Green State University men's basketball team played the first game of their 2024 European Tour on Saturday (Aug. 3), taking on the Munich All-Stars with professional players from the region. The two teams played in a local gymnasium with a full crowd in attendance to watch their local team take on "a team from the NCAA." In the contest, the Falcons were able to capture an 80-69 victory to move to 1-0 on the trip with 11 different players seeing action. Stat leaders from the game will be added at a later time.

A back-and-forth game from the jump, the Falcons fell behind early while adjusting to the FIBA rules and regulations, but quickly regained their footing. An and-one for Youssef Khayat sparked the offense, leading to BGSU claiming a lead in the first quarter. Khayat's three-point play was part of a second unit boost that complimented a pair of triples from Preston Squire early in the contest, pushing BGSU ahead.

The trading of buckets carried into the second quarter with the lead changing hands a few times. The second unit continued to shine with Javontae Campbell weaving his way through the Munich defense. A few momentum plays for the Falcons, including an alley oop from Derrick Butler to Sam Towns and a breakaway dunk by Braelon Green, landed the score in BGSU's favor at the halftime break.

Coming out in the second half, the Falcons continued to play tough defense, as one local fan complimented the team's speed and strength. In the third quarter, Bowling Green maintained their advantage with the first team heating up. Squire rained another three and a breakaway slam by Butler put the exclamation on the quarter, sending BGSU to the final quarter break with a four-point lead.

In the final frame, the Falcons continued to apply pressure. Strong defense remained a focal point, including hustle plays from Greg Spurgin to claim possession on the defensive end. DaJion Humphrey worked through the defense while Trey Thomas closed out the game at the free throw line. Marcus Johnson and Jaxon Pardon contributed on both ends as well, leading to an 80-69 BGSU victory.

The Falcons will have one more game over the course of the trip, playing against SRSNI PISEK in Czechia on Tuesday, Aug. 6.
