Falcons Journey To Kent State For Tuesday Night Bout With Golden Flashes

KENT, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University men's basketball team will hit the road for their next two games, beginning on Tuesday (Jan. 28) against the Kent State Golden Flashes. Bowling Green and Kent State are scheduled for a 7 p.m. tip inside the M.A.C.C. Center. The game will be available to stream on ESPN+ with Todd Walker having the radio call on WFRO Eagle 99 for the Falcons.

KENT, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University men's basketball team will hit the road for their next two games, beginning on Tuesday (Jan. 28) against the Kent State Golden Flashes. Bowling Green and Kent State are scheduled for a 7 p.m. tip inside the M.A.C.C. Center. Opening Tip
The Falcons and Golden Flashes will be meeting for the 174th time in program history with the all-time series leaning to BGSU at 89-84. Despite Bowling Green holding the all-time advantage, Kent State has won the last 10 meetings, including five at home when hosting BGSU. When hosting the Falcons, the Golden Flashes have a record of 48-35. The game will feature the MAC's top two players in field goal percentage during conference play with BGSU's Jamai Felt and Kent State's Cli'ron Hornbeak both shooting 75.0-percent against MAC opponents. 

A Bowling Green Win Would… 

  • Snap a 10-game losing streak to Kent State for the Falcons, marking the program's first win against the Golden Flashes since March 1, 2019.
  • Mark the first win at Kent for Bowling Green since Jan. 5, 2019, breaking a five-game losing streak on the road against Kent State.
  • Push the Falcons back to .500 on the road during MAC play with a 2-2 standing.
  • Snap a three-game losing streak for the Orange and Brown.

Scouting The Golden Flashes
Kent State opened the season with a 9-3 record, but hit a rough patch in MAC play with a 3-4 standing, moving to 12-7 on the year. The Golden Flashes have dropped three of their last four with the win coming against Toledo on Jan. 21. Aside from MAC opponents, Kent State and BGSU have a common foe in Niagara this season, a team KSU topped 76-73 at home. Individually, Kent State is led by VonCameron Davis, averaging 15.4 points per game over 29.1 minutes per game, both topping the team's stat sheet. 

BGSU vs. Kent State, All-Time
The Falcons and Golden Flashes will be meeting for the 174th time in program history. Overall, Bowling Green holds the series advantage with a record of 89-84 against Kent State. However, the Golden Flashes have won the last 10 meetings between the two programs. The last win for BGSU in the series came on March 1, 2019 with a 77-72 win at home. As for games in Kent, KSU has a record of 48-35 when hosting the Falcons, including wins in the last five with BGSU's last win coming on Jan. 5, 2019 by an 86-64 final.

Felt Tops Conference Leaderboard
Jamai Felt continued a strong stretch of games in the blocking category, logging three against Toledo. During MAC play, Felt now has four games with three blocks or more. In total, he has swatted away a MAC-best 19 shots during conference play, averaging 2.7 per game. As for the season as a whole, Felt has 29 blocks with an average of 1.5 blocks per game, ranking second behind only Ohio's AJ Clayton with 33 blocks on the year. During MAC play, Felt is also fourth for rebounds, averaging 7.9 per game. 

Campbell Nearing Program Top 10
Javontae Campbell is closing in on joining the program's top 10 list for steals in a single-season. Campbell has already tallied 59 steals this season, needing just two more to enter the list. The total for Campbell has him fifth in the nation for total steals while his 3.11 steals per game are fourth in the country. At his current pace with 31 games on BGSU's schedule, Campbell is on pace to tally 96 steals during the regular season. The current BGSU single-season steals record is set at 82 by DeMar Moore in 1996-97. As for the MAC steals record, it's held by Ball State's Bonzi Wells with 103 during the 1997-98 campaign. Postseason play would count towards both records.

Johnson In The Scoring Column
This season, Marcus Johnson has tallied 17 double-digit scoring games through BGSU's 19 contests, including 12 straight. On top of that, Johnson just scored a season-high 28 points against Toledo, his team-leading seventh 20-point game of the season. On the year, Johnson is averaging 17.1 points per game, topping the Mid-American Conference. Additionally, he is now shooting 87.7-percent at the free throw line after going 16-of-17 over the last four games. The mark has pushed Johnson back inside the nation's top 50 for the stat, sitting at 49th. 

Thomas In MAC Play
Trey Thomas has caught fire during MAC play for the Falcons, scoring double-digits in each of the seven games so far, including his first two 20-point games of the season. Thomas is now averaging 17.0 points per game during MAC play, leading the team and ranking third behind only Eastern Michigan's Da'Sean Nelson (18.7) and Christian Henry (17.9). BGSU's Marcus Johnson is fourth with an average of 16.7 points, making the top four in the conference all Eagles and Falcons. 

Humphrey Rejoins Rotation
After missing time due to an injury, DaJion Humphrey returned to the BGSU lineup the last two games. Humphrey saw 12 minutes of action against Miami (OH) before logging 24 against Toledo. His first points back came against the rival Rockets, registering four. For his collegiate career, Humphrey has 941 total points, needing an additional 59 to reach 1,000.
