Falcons Add Colorado Transfer Guard Javon Ruffin
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University men's basketball program and head coach Todd Simon announced the signing of Javon Ruffin on Friday (May 2). Ruffin, a 6-foot-5 guard, will join the Falcons after spending the last four seasons at Colorado, including a redshirt season in 2021-22. A native of Phoenix, Ariz., Ruffin played in 75 games over three seasons for the Buffaloes, including making 12 starts with 10 being during the 2024-25 campaign.
"We are excited to announce the signing of Javon Ruffin," said Simon. "Javon brings a well-rounded game and significant Big 12 experience to our program. At 6-foot-5, his size will be an asset at the guard position. He can play on and off the ball which fits our up-tempo style. His work ethic and basketball IQ will make everyone around him better as well."
During the 2024-25 season, Ruffin averaged 20.2 minutes per game for Colorado, appearing in 33 games while making 10 starts. He tallied 184 points, averaging 5.6 per game, while totaling 68 assists and 66 rebounds. Ruffin posted five games during the season with double-digit points, including a season-high 15 against Harvard on Nov. 17. He added a season-high five assists twice during the season, coming against Cal State Fullerton (Nov. 13) and Kansas State (March 2) while totaling a team-high seven rebounds against West Virginia (Jan. 12).
In 2023-24, Ruffin missed the first half of the season due to injury, but returned to the rotation on Dec. 29. He ended up playing in 18 games over the course of the season, shooting 81.8-percent from the free throw line. He scored a season-high 11 points on Jan. 4 against Arizona and hauled in a season-high six rebounds on March 9 against Oregon State.
Ruffin began his career at Colorado in 2021-22, redshirting his first season. In his first season of action, coming in 2022-23, he appeared in 24 games with two starts. Averaging 14.8 minutes per game, Ruffin shot 42.2-percent from the field, 87.5-percent from the line and averaged 6.0 points per game. He recorded six double-digit scoring games and snagged a season-high seven rebounds against Arizona State (Feb. 16). One of his two starts in the season came against Coach Simon's Southern Utah squad.
Ruffin is the son of Michael and Mistye Ruffin. His dad, Michael, played collegiately at Tulsa and spent nine seasons in the NBA, appearing in games with six different teams. His longest tenure came with the Washington Wizards from 2004-07, playing in 185 games over his three seasons with the team.

A native of Sanford, Fla., Shackelford was named the 2024-25 Peach Belt Conference Freshman of the Year and earned All-Conference Third-Team honors as well.
- Felt, Humphrey Named Academic All-MACCLEVELAND, Ohio – The Mid-American Conference announced Friday afternoon (April 4) the 2024-25 Men's Basketball Academic All-MAC Team. A total of 29 student-athletes were named across the conference with Bowling Green totaling two with Jamai Felt and DaJion Humphrey being named. Western Michigan led the way in the MAC with five, followed closely by Toledo's four.
- Falcons Late Season Surge Comes To Close In MAC QuarterfinalsCLEVELAND, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University men's basketball team kicked off the 2024-25 MAC Men's Basketball Tournament in Cleveland on Thursday (March 13) inside Rocket Arena. Bowling Green took on the top-seeded Akron Zips in the first game of the tournament on the men's side. For the Falcons, Marcus Johnson led the way with 23 points, including five three-pointers, while Jamai Felt added 12 points and Javontae Campbell tallied 10 points and swiped four steals for the Orange and Brown. Despite the efforts, Akron came away with a 96-67 final. For Bowling Green, the loss closes out a stretch to end the year that included wins in seven of their last 11 contests.
