Thomas A Shot Shy Of 1,000 Points
Trey Thomas will enter the game against Buffalo just one three-pointer away from hitting 1,000 points for his collegiate career. Thomas sits with 997 points entering the week, needing three to become the second Falcon to reach 1,000 career points this season after Derrick Butler did so against St. Thomas on Dec. 21. For Thomas, he has scored 469 of his career points while donning the Orange and Brown after logging 528 with Vanderbilt over his first three seasons, spanning from 2020-23. During MAC play this season, Thomas is averaging 17.0 points per game, ranking seventh in the conference. He posted 19 points in the MAC opener against Akron, a season-high 22 against Western Michigan and 10 against Ball State.
Scouting The Bulls
Buffalo heads into the week with a 5-10 record on the season while being 0-3 within the MAC. The Bulls opened MAC play with a tough schedule, heading to Miami (OH) before hosting Ohio and Kent State, a trio of teams with a combined 8-1 MAC record thus far. Going into non-conference play, Buffalo has lost six-straight games with their last win coming against Pitt-Bradford on Dec. 3. The other wins for Buffalo have come against North Carolina A&T, Morgan State, Fredonia and Old Dominion.
BGSU vs. Buffalo, All-Time
The Falcons and Bulls will be meeting for the 49th time in program history with the series being close at 25-23, leaning to Buffalo. However, Bowling Green holds a record of 15-9 when hosting the Bulls. As the series record indicates, dating back to only the 1998-99 season, the last 10 games have been close. Buffalo has a slight advantage with a 4-6 record over the last 10 meetings. The two have met just once each of the last two seasons with the home team taking each matchup.
BGSU's Double-Digit Scorers
Through the first 15 games of the season, Bowling Green has had 10 different players log at least one double-digit scoring game. Wilguens Jr. Exacte was the most recent addition to the list, tallying a season-high 12 points against Ball State. Javontae Campbell tops the list with 14 double-digit games through 15 for the Falcons. Marcus Johnson (13) and Derrick Butler (12) are right behind. The rest of the list includes multiple from Trey Thomas (6), Youssef Khayat (4) and Braelon Green (3) along with one from each of Exacte, Jamai Felt, Preston Squire and Sam Towns. In the nation, Alabama A&M has had the most double-digit scorers with 15. VMI is next on the list with 13 while 13 different teams have had 12.
Campbell On Record-Breaking Pace
Javontae Campbell has established himself among the best in the nation for steals. Campbell is averaging 3.33 steals per game, ranking third in the nation, and has totaled 50 steals, tied for the fourth-most in the country behind only UC San Diego's Hayden Gray (63), Maine's Kellen Tynes (61) and Eastern Kentucky's George Kimble III (51). Campbell needs just 11 to break into BGSU's top 10 for a single season. At his current pace with 31 games on BGSU's regular season schedule, Campbell is on pace to tally 103 steals this season. The current BGSU single-season steals record is set at 82 by DeMar Moore in 1996-97. As for the MAC steals record, it's held by Ball State's Bonzi Wells with 103 during the 1997-98 campaign.
Blocks Being Felt
Jamai Felt has worked his way up to a tie for second in the MAC in total blocks this season with 17. Felt is tied with Akron's James Okonkwo while trailing Ohio's AJ Clayton with 28. Through the first three MAC games of the year, Felt already has seven blocks which is second in the conference behind Clayton's nine for Ohio.
