Men’s Hoops Falls In Mount Pleasant To Central Michigan
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich - The Bowling Green State University men's basketball team wrapped up their current road trip on Saturday (Feb. 1) in Mount Pleasant, Mich. against Central Michigan. A strong first half for the Chippewas created a 49-33 deficit at the midway point. The Falcons pulled within six at 57-51, but Central Michigan utilized a run to reestablish the difference for the 90-71 final score. The Falcons will now return home for their next three contests as well as four of the next five.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Central Michigan won the opening tip of the game, making a three to start play. Wilguens Jr. Exacte answered on the BGSU end with a corner three for the first Falcon points of the game and a quick 3-3 tie.
- Javontae Campbell drove through the lane on the next Bowling Green possession, spelling a 5-0 BGSU burst. A second-chance layup later for CMU tied it back up with a dunk pushing the Chippewas in front, 7-5.
- Campbell drained a three to swing the score back to the Falcons with Central Michigan matching the three their next time down. Trey Thomas tallied a pair of layups, but each were followed by CMU buckets. Another Central three made it a 5-0 burst and 17-12 score at the first media timeout of the game with 12:11 on the clock.
- Out of the timeout, Central Michigan added a layup before the under-12 media break with the score at 19-12. Drawing a foul on the layup, CMU added one at the line after the break for an 8-0 run.
- DaJion Humphrey ended the run with a fadeaway jumper, drawing the foul and hitting the free throw as well. CMU responded with a triple. Marcus Johnson followed with a layup in the paint, becoming the fifth different Falcon to score on BGSU's first seven baskets.
- Thomas converted another layup, but the Chippewas answered with an and-one. Jamai Felt worked through contact for a layup followed by a Thomas three for a 5-0 BGSU burst, cutting the score down to 26-24.
- CMU added a three to their total, but Braelon Green found Felt for an alley-oop. Another layup for the Chippewas made it a 31-26 score at the under-8 media timeout.
- A three and a jumper for Central Michigan created a 7-0 run across the timeout, moving the score to 36-26. A driving layup for Campbell halted the run, but another CMU three followed for a 39-28 score at the final media timeout of the first half.
- Out of the break, the Chippewas added two layups before calling a timeout with BGSU trailing 43-28. CMU went back-and-forth with the Falcons to the end of the half. Thomas tallied an and-one to go along with an Exacte layup, sending the teams to half with a 49-33 score.
- Johnson opened the second half with a second-chance layup for the first points. Thomas quickly hit a three for the Falcons, making it a 5-0 run to cut the deficit down to 49-38 with CMU taking a timeout.
- Central Michigan tallied their first points of the half after the timeout, coming via hook shot, followed by another layup. Exacte added two at the line to stop the short CMU spurt.
- Central Michigan registered a layup before Campbell swiped a steal, turning it into an and-one opportunity for a 55-43 score at the first media timeout of the half.
- Out of the break, the Chippewas hit two free throws. Humphrey answered on the Bowling Green end with a three off a pass from Green. Humphrey's three jumpstarted an 8-0 run for the Falcons. Johnson hit another three followed by a driving layup for Green, forcing a timeout for CMU with the lead cut down to 57-51.
- The BGSU run ended with a made free throw for the Chippewas followed by a three, pushing the lead back to 61-51 at the under-12 media timeout.
- The first points out of the timeout came at the line for Campbell, sinking a pair, but CMU hit two of their own in response. Green found Felt for another alley-oop slam. CMU recorded an 8-0 run, extending their lead to 71-55 at the under-8 break.
- After the timeout, the run reached 15-0 for Central Michigan. Humphrey ended the run with a corner three for the Orange and Brown. CMU made a free throw, but Green followed with a floater. The Chippewas added a jumper for an 81-60 score at the final media timeout of regulation.
- Coming out of the break, Green connected on one at the line for BGSU, but CMU answered with four free throws. Felt converted an and-one for the Falcons for an 85-64 score.
- Bowling Green put together a 5-0 run. Green added one at the line followed by an and-one by Campbell and one free throw from Exacte, cutting the score down to 87-69.
- Down the stretch for the Falcons, Campbell hit two more at the line on the way to the 90-71 final.

- Javontae Campbell led the Falcons in scoring with 17 points, going a perfect 6-for-6 at the free throw line. Campbell added two steals to his stat line, giving him 65 on the season. He is now tied for seventh in program history for steals in a single season, matching both Keith McLeod (2001-02) and Scott Thomas (2010-11).
- Trey Thomas joined Campbell in the double-digit scoring outputs, finishing with 15 points. He filled out his stat line with two rebounds, two steals and an assist.
- Braelon Green put together a full line for the Falcons. In addition to six points, Green finished with a career-high five rebounds and led the team in assists with three. He also matched his season-highs for blocks (1), offensive rebounds (1) and defensive rebounds (4).
- Jamai Felt tallied nine points for the Falcons while leading the team in rebounds with seven, including four on the offensive end. Felt added three blocks in the game, tying him for the MAC lead with 33 on the season.
- DaJion Humphrey recorded a season-high nine points for the Falcons, including his first game this season with multiple three-pointers, connecting on a pair.
- Wilguens Jr. Exacte contributed eight points for BGSU, including matching his season-high for free throws made with three.

Bowling Green will be back home at the Stroh Center for their next three games, beginning with Northern Illinois on Tuesday (Feb. 4) with a 7 p.m. tip. The homestand will continue with Coastal Carolina on Feb. 8 as part of the MAC-Sun Belt Challenge before concluding on Feb. 11 with Ohio.
