YPSILANTI, Mich. - The Bowling Green State University men's basketball team will head north to Ypsilanti, Mich. on Tuesday (Feb. 25) to face off with the Eastern Michigan Eagles. BGSU and EMU are set for a 6:30 p.m. tip inside the George Gervin GameAbove Center, marking a crucial game down the stretch for both teams in regards to the MAC standings. The game will be aired on ESPN+ with Todd Walker adding a BGSU radio call on WFRO Eagle 99.

Opening Tip
The Falcons and Eagles will be meeting for the 103rd time in program history with Bowling Green holding the all-time advantage with a record of 57-45. Eastern Michigan has won the last two meetings between the teams and holds a slim margin when hosting the Falcons with a record of 24-22. The game will feature three of the MAC's top four scorers with EMU's Jalen Terry (16.8) and Da'Sean Nelson (16.4) as well as BGSU's Marcus Johnson (16.4). During MAC play, EMU and BGSU are back-to-back in the conference for blocks per game. The Falcons are third (3.86) while the Eagles are fourth (3.71).

A Bowling Green Win Would…

  • Split the season series with Eastern Michigan.
  • Give the Orange and Brown three-straight road wins for the first time this season.
  • Push the Falcons to a 4-4 record on the road against MAC opponents.
  • Tally back-to-back MAC wins for the first time this season.
  • Grant BGSU wins in five of their last seven games.
  • Keep the Falcons above .500 during the Coach Simon Era at 32-30.

Exacte-ly What BGSU Needed
Over the last few games, Wilguens Jr. Exacte has emerged as a rebounding force for the Falcons off the bench. Exacte has tallied at least five rebounds in five of the last six games, including a career-high 12 in the win over Toledo. Additionally, in those six games, Exacte has had at least three offensive rebounds in four of them, including a career-high five in the win over Toledo. Exacte has led the team in rebounding in each of BGSU's last two wins and over the last three games is averaging 9.3 rebounds and 7.3 points.

Scouting The Eagles
Since the last meeting between Bowling Green and Eastern Michigan, the Eagles have gone 6-4. EMU is in the midst of a three-game winning streak, beating Toledo, Miami (OH) and Northern Illinois over the stretch. The win over NIU came with a buzzer-beating three from the NIU logo by Jalen Terry. Terry finished with 28 points in the 79-76 final. The last loss for the Eagles came on Feb. 11, falling to Ball State in a close 86-84 final, breaking up wins in four of their last five contests.

BGSU vs. Eastern Michigan, All-Time
The Falcons and Eagles will be meeting for the 103rd time in program history with Bowling Green holding the all-time advantage at 57-45. Despite the series leaning to BGSU, Eastern Michigan has claimed the last two meetings, including one earlier this season in Bowling Green with a 68-62 final. In the game earlier this year, the Falcons were led by Marcus Johnson with 18 points while Jamai Felt narrowly missed a double-double with eight points and 10 rebounds while adding four blocks.

Johnson At The Line
Marcus Johnson is currently in the midst of making 30 straight free throws. The last miss at the line for Johnson came against Eastern Michigan on Jan. 18.  Going back a game further, Johnson has made 37 of his last 38 free throw attempts dating back to Jan. 14. The stretch has pushed Johnson's free throw percentage back above 90-percent, sitting at 91.0, which ranks first in the MAC among qualified players and 10th in the nation. Last year, Johnson shot 90.8-percent at the line on 120 attempts for Wheeling.

Campbell Nearing Steals Record
Javontae Campbell added another steal against Toledo and is up to 77 steals on the season. Campbell is now second on the program's all-time list for single-season steals. The next step will be the program record, which is held by DeMar Moore with 82 during the 1996-97 season. As for the MAC steals record, it's held by Ball State's Bonzi Wells with 103 during the 1997-98 campaign. Campbell's 2.85 steals per game are fourth in the nation. He is also two steals away from setting a new career-high after having 78 steals last season for Northern Oklahoma.

Falcons Scoring In Bunches
Across the last three games, the Falcons have had five 20-point performances with three of them belonging to Javontae Campbell. Campbell started the streak with 20 points against Buffalo and followed it up with 26 against Kent State. Marcus Johnson added 21 against the Golden Flashes. Against Toledo, Campbell recorded his third-straight 20-point game with 23 against the Rockets. Derrick Butler joined him with 20 in the game as well. During the three-game stretch, Campbell is averaging 23.0 points per game and has led the Falcons in scoring in each contest.

Looking At The MAC Standings
With four games left in the regular season, the MAC standings are witnessing a log jam in the middle. Slots six through 10 are all separated by just two games with the top eight making the MAC Tournament in Cleveland. While the Falcons are currently tied for ninth, their remaining schedule will play a big role in the standings. Three of BGSU's final four games are against teams currently tied for sixth (Eastern Michigan, Feb. 25 // Ball State, March 1) and eighth (Western Michigan, March 7) while the fourth is NIU, currently last.
