Falcons Golf Finishes Fifth in The Match Play
DADE CITY, Fla. – The Bowling Green Men's Golf Team finished their first tournament of the 2025 competitive spring season. In match-play the Falcons went 2-1-0 with round two and three wins over the Central Michigan Chippewas and USC Upstate Spartans. The two-day event was held at Lake Jovita Country Club, a par 72, 7121-yard course in Dade City, Fla.
In the Falcons first match against Loyola-Chicago, senior Luke Evans started strong going up by one early on hole No.3 before extending the lead to as many as three strokes by hole No. 12. Evans ended up winning his match up by one stroke.
Against the Central Michigan Chippewas, Hudak, Johnson and freshman Andrew Lee all went up big on their match ups. Hudak defeated his match-up by seven strokes, while Johnson won by four and Lee defeated his opponent by nine strokes. Senior Zander Gibson finished even with his match-up but defeated his opponent by a stroke on the final hole to clinch the win for the Falcons.
In the third match-up against the USC Upstate Spartans, the Falcons started strong through the front nine before USC Upstate came back through the back nine, before BGSU pulled away to secure their second win of the tournament. In the Hudak, Johnson and Evans match-up, the trio went down early through the first nine before coming back to win their match-up and secure three points for the Falcons. On hole No.14 and 15 and the final two holes of the match, Evans defeated USC Upstate's Clayton Taylor by a score going -1 under par to secure the win for the Orange and Brown. Notably, Lee defeated Caden Sanders of USC Upstate after shooting at or below par through the final nine holes.
