BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The BGSU men's golf team and head coach John Powers have announced the addition of two transfers for the upcoming year, David Chavez and Angelo Luciani, rounding out the team's roster for the 2025-26 season.

Chavez joins the Falcons from Virginia State University (VSU), where he performed very well at the NCAA Division II level for two seasons prior to his commitment to BGSU.
A native of Pensacola, Fla., Chavez was a standout at VSU in his first year. As a freshman, he played in ten tournaments for the Trojans, totaling 26 rounds played and a scoring average of 75.3 strokes per round. He earned three top three finishes in the 2023-24 season and finished victorious at the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Northern Division Championship. A week later, Chavez continued his impressive freshman season, finishing second individually at the CIAA Men's Golf Championship, where he shot a 212 and came in at -4 under par.

Chavez's second year at VSU consisted of similar success. In the 2024-25 season, he competed in ten tournaments for a total of 26 total rounds played. He earned another three top three finishes and finished with a scoring average of 74.6 strokes per round. During this season, however, Chavez battled through adversity to claim the top spot in the CIAA Men's Golf Championship, shooting a 215 and finishing -1 under par. Chavez will be entering his junior year this season and will bring a wealth of NCAA experience to the Falcon's roster.
Luciani joins the Falcons from Grand Canyon University (GCU) where he competed on the club golf team.

Hailing from Grand Rapids, Mich., Luciani brings an extensive resume of golf at multiple levels. Twice, Luciani competed in the First Tee National Championships, first in 2021 at Clemson, and for a second time in 2022 at Notre Dame. Over the past two seasons, Luciani has played on the club golf team at Grand Canyon University. During the 2023-24 season, Luciani was crowned a Co-Individual Champion at the 2024 National Collegiate Club Golf Association (NCCGA) Spring Championship, where he shot a 68 to finish -4 under par. Over his career at GCU, he won a total of four NCCGA events.

Over this past summer, Luciani has competed in a number of local tournaments throughout his home state of Michigan. In May, he finished second at the West Michigan Amateur, shooting a 214 (70-70-72) and finishing +4 over par. On June 9-12, he competed at the Michigan Open Championship, where he finished with a 288, +4 over par, after four rounds of play at Shanty Creek's Cedar River Golf Course.
