Kyle Cusimano Named MAC Hermann Trophy Semifinalist
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (BGSU Strategic Communications) – United Soccer Coaches and the Missouri Athletic Club (MAC) have announced the 15 men's semifinalists for the 2024 MAC Hermann Trophy, and Bowling Green State University standout Kyle Cusimano has made the list.
The MAC Hermann Trophy is the most coveted individual honor in NCAA Division I soccer. The list of semifinalists was determined based on voting by NCAA Division I men's soccer coaches.
"Kyle is a remarkable player and leader who has consistently demonstrated that he belongs among college soccer's elite," said BGSU head coach Eric Nichols. "Falcon Soccer Nation is incredibly proud of Kyle and this well-deserved recognition."
Cusimano, a native of Bay Village, Ohio (Bay), was the 2024 Missouri Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Year, and also was named to the All-MVC First Team. The defender had six points on two goals and two assists, and the fifth-year Falcon played 1,667 of the first 1,668 minutes of the season (coming off the pitch due to an injury but returning after just over a minute) before being injured early in the second half of the MVC Tournament semifinal match. The latter injury forced him to miss the remainder of that match and all of the championship contest.
Cusimano helped the Falcons keep six clean sheets on the season. He was named to the Top Drawer Soccer National Team of the Week on Sept. 3.
Additionally, Cusimano was named to the MVC Scholar-Athlete Second Team, and also was selected to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District® Team.
Cusimano played in 79 career matches, starting 78, in his stellar Falcon career. He is tied for 11th in school history in appearances and ranks seventh in career starts. And, he had 33 career points, with 10 goals and 13 assists.
Three men's finalists will be named for the award next Wednesday (Dec. 18) after voting by NCAA Division I coaches who are members of United Soccer Coaches. The 2024 MAC Hermann Trophy winner will then be announced at a press conference at the historic Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis on Jan. 3, 2025, followed by a dinner to celebrate all of the 2024 finalists.
Fans are encouraged to vote for their favorite player. CLICK HERE for the men's semifinal ballot, and go to machermanntrophy.com for more information about the history of the MAC Hermann Trophy.
