Falcons Well Represented as MVC Announces 2024-25 Academic Honor Roll
The Bowling Green State University men's soccer team was well represented when the Missouri Valley Conference office announced the members of the 2024-25 MVC Honor Roll. Jake Bergin, a senior on the 2024 Falcon team, led the way with three honors, while a total of 20 men's soccer student-athletes earned at least one accolade.
Bergin was a recipient of the MVC's Board of Directors Academic Excellence Award, and was one of seven Falcons to earn the MVC Commissioner's Academic Excellence Award as well. Bergin was joined on the latter list by Mads Christensen, Amer Dedic, Brendan Graves, Jake Lane, Bennett Painter and Andrew Shaffer.
And, no fewer than 20 Falcons received MVC Honor Roll recognition. That lengthy list included Alberto Anaya, Bergin, Ryko Bodurov, Christensen, Kyle Cusimano, Dedic, Taylor Dyson, Josh Erlandson, Graves, Anthony Hernandez, Tim Koczulap, Lane, Casper Madsen, Painter, Gus Peacock, Aiden Ptacek, Saul Rios, Will Schutte, Shaffer and Trace Terry.
Bergin was one of just 173 student-athletes across all MVC sports to earn the league's highest academic achievement, the MVC Board of Directors Academic Excellence Award. The Board of Directors Academic Excellence Award requires a minimum 3.8 cumulative grade point average, participation in athletics a minimum of two years, and the student-athlete must be within 18 hours of graduation (by the end of the Spring 2025 semester)..
The Commissioner's Academic Excellence Award requires a minimum GPA of 3.5 for each of the previous two semesters, a minimum 3.2 cumulative GPA, and participation in athletics a minimum of two years. More than 1,000 student-athletes earned the award across the conference in all sports.
And, more than 2,000 MVC student-athletes received Honor Roll recognition. For the MVC Honor Roll, a student-athlete must have recorded a minimum 3.2 GPA for a specified term (Fall 2024/Spring 2025), must have been a member of an athletics team, and must have been enrolled full time during the term they earned the honor.
The 2025 edition of the Falcons will host Purdue Fort Wayne on Friday night (Aug. 15) in BG's final exhibition match. First touch is set for 7:00 p.m. at Cochrane Stadium, and admission is free. The regular season begins on Thursday, Aug. 21, when IU Indy comes to Cochrane for another 7:00 p.m. start.
