Painter Named MVC Offensive Player of Week
Bowling Green State University men's soccer standout Bennett Painter has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Week. The league office made the announcement on Tuesday afternoon (Oct. 15).
Earlier on Tuesday, Painter was named to the Top Drawer Soccer National Team of the Week.
Painter, a native of Cincinnati, Ohio (Anderson), had three goals and two assists in the first half alone, as the Falcons defeated Detroit Mercy, 5-2, last Tuesday night (Oct. 8). Painter's hat trick in that game was the first by a Falcon since 2015, and his eight-point game was the first by a Falcon in a decade.
Painter now has nine goals and 21 points on the season. He is tied for the team lead in points and ranks second on the Falcons in goals.
Painter's game-winning goal vs. the Titans was his fourth of the season, tying him for the national lead. Nine NCAA Division-I players have four GWG this season, and BGSU is the only team with two of those players (Trace Terry).
After a scoreless draw vs. Drake on Saturday night (Oct. 12), the Falcons are now 9-2-2 overall and 3-1-1 in the MVC, heading into a Sunday (Oct. 20) match at Missouri State.
