Falcons to Face Arkansas State in MAC-Sun Belt Challenge Matchup
The Mid-American Conference and Sun Belt Conference offices have announced the February slate of games for this season's MAC-SBC Challenge. The Bowling Green State University women's basketball team will travel to Jonesboro, Ark., to face Arkansas State University on Saturday, Feb. 8, with tipoff at 2:00 p.m. locally (3:00 p.m. Eastern) at First National Bank Arena.
The MAC-SBC Challenge is a scheduling alliance in the sports of men's and women's basketball that began in November of 2023. The second leg of matchups this season were scheduled based on real-time NET rankings, projected season finish and previous cross-conference contests.
Each MAC and Sun Belt team included in the MAC-SBC Challenge is guaranteed one home and one away game each season.
The game will mark the first-ever meeting between BGSU and Arkansas State. The Falcons will enter that contest with an overall record of 15-6 against current members of the Sun Belt Conference. A total of 15 of the 21 previous games have come against Marshall, a former MAC member.
In the first leg of this season's MAC-Sun Belt Challenge, the Falcons opened the 2024-25 season with a 71-67 win over Southern Miss on Nov. 4 at the Stroh Center.
BGSU currently has an overall record of 7-8, and the Falcons are 1-3 in MAC play entering a Wednesday (Jan. 15) game at Ohio.
Arkansas State has an overall record of 8-7, including a 4-1 mark in SBC action to date. The Red Wolves faced Western Michigan in the first round of this season's MAC-Sun Belt Challenge, falling in Kalamazoo by a 61-52 score. After a loss in the conference opener, A-State has won four consecutive games heading into a Wednesday (Jan. 15) home contest vs. Louisiana.
