Joniyah Bland-Fitzpatrick Joins Falcons

Bowling Green State University women's basketball coach Fred Chmiel has announced the addition of Joniyah Bland-Fitzpatrick (New London, Conn.) to the roster. Bland-Fitzpatrick comes to BGSU after spending the last two years at Seton Hall University.

"Joniyah is a big guard who has the intangibles to help our team take the next step in our improvement from last season," said Chmiel. "Her style of play will help fill the stat sheet in a variety of ways."

Bland-Fitzpatrick, a 5-10 forward, played in a total of 37 games for the Pirates. She saw action in 22 games off the bench in 2024-25, averaging 2.1 points and 1.8 rebounds per game, helping Seton Hall finish 23-10 overall and 13-5 in the Big East Conference. The Pirates finished third in the conference and advanced to the second round of the WBIT.

Bland-Fitzpatrick had four points, a career-high seven rebounds, three assists and two steals in her first action of the season, a game against LSU on Dec. 17. She scored six points against both Villanova and Creighton in league play, and had five boards in the latter game. Bland-Fitzpatrick scored five points against Butler and four points on three occasions. She averaged 12.1 minutes per contest.

As a freshman in 2023-24, Bland-Fitzpatrick played in 15 games off the bench, and averaged 1.1 points and 0.5 boards in 4.0 minutes per game She went 6-of-12 from the field and 5-for-7 from the free-throw line on the season. She scored in eight of the games in which she saw action, including a three-point contest against Connecticut in her home state.

A graduate of the Westtown (Pa.) School, she earned All-FSL (Friends School League) First-Team honors, and helped the Moose to a combined 76-13 record in her four years. Westtown captured FSL and PAISSA (Pennsylvania Independent School Athletic Association) championships during her tenure.
