Falcons Add Kaia Woods to 2025-26 Roster
Bowling Green State University women's basketball coach Fred Chmiel has announced the addition of Kaia Woods (Tiffin, Ohio) to the roster. Woods most recently played for the University of Akron.
"Kaia is an experienced and tough point guard who is familiar with our conference," said Chmiel. "She will add speed and a fierce mentality helping to fill the void of Amy Velasco. Our style of play will complement her abilities."
Woods did not see action at Akron in 2024-25, but she appeared in all 29 games for the Zips in the previous season, making one start. In that 2023-24 campaign, Woods averaged 6.9 points, 2.2 rebounds, 2.1 assists and a team-high 1.0 steals per contest. She connected on 39.7 percent (71-of-179) of her shots from the field, making 13 three pointers that year.
Woods scored in double figures nine times in '23-24, including a season-best 22-point game against Arkansas State (Feb. 10). She paced the squad in assists six times, including a season-high total of six on two occasions, against Ball State (Jan. 6) and Central Michigan (Jan. 10). And, the 5-3 guard pulled down five rebounds twice.
The Tiffin native transferred to Akron after spending two seasons at Washington State University, where she appeared in a total of 17 games. She played in nine games during the 2022-23 campaign and was part of a Cougar squad that captured the Pac-10 Conference Tournament title and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the third consecutive season and fourth time overall.
As a freshman at WSU in 2021-22, Woods appeared in eight games after joining the team following the fall 2021 semester.
Woods averaged 20.2 points, 7.6 steals and 5.6 assists per game during her prep career, which was split between Tiffin Columbian and Hopewell-Loudon. A 1,000-point scorer and two-time All-Sandusky Bay Conference honoree, she was tabbed a unanimous first-team River Division selection and named the league's co-player of the year as a junior at Hopewell-Loudon. As a sophomore, she was a first-team Lake Division selection while playing for Columbian.
Prior to her senior season, she enrolled at Royal Crown Academy, a prep school in Toronto, Ontario. However, the team's season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which led her to reclassify to the class of 2021.
Woods is the daughter of Dandre Woods and Jacinda Kemp. Both of her parents competed in collegiate athletics at Toledo, as her father played football while her mother ran track.
