Four Falcons Named to Academic All-MAC Team
A total of four Bowling Green State University women's basketball student-athletes have been named to the Academic All-Mid-American Conference Team, the league office announced Thursday afternoon (April 10). The Falcons' list of honorees includes Sophie Dziekan, Olivia Hill, Emily Siesel and Amy Velasco.
Dziekan and Hill each were named to the team for the third consecutive season, while Velasco earned the honor for the second-straight year.
The Academic All-MAC Team honor is bestowed upon those who have excelled in both athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. True freshmen and transfers in their first academic year at their current school are not eligible for the Academic All-MAC Team.
On the court, the Falcons finished the 2023-24 season with an overall record of 16-15, and BGSU went 10-8 in MAC play.. The Falcons were picked to finish fourth in the MAC in the preseason coaches poll. Despite losing an estimated 126 player-games due to injury in '23-24, BG finished the regular season in a tie for fourth in the conference.
