Elzinga Wins 109th Michigan Women's Amateur Championship

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Macie Elzinga of the BGSU women's golf team won the 109th Michigan Women's Amateur Championship on Fri., July 11, at Eagle Eye Golf Club in East Lansing, Mich.

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Macie Elzinga of the BGSU women's golf team won the 109th Michigan Women's Amateur Championship on Fri., July 11, at Eagle Eye Golf Club in East Lansing, Mich.  
The tournament began with 36 holes of stroke play across Monday and Tuesday, with the top 32 golfers advancing to match play. Elzinga shot a 72 in both rounds of stroke play, finishing tied for 9th after the opening rounds. From there, she won five-straight matches, shooting a 69 in the final round on Friday and claiming top spot in the tournament.  
With this win, Elzinga earns an exemption from the USGA into the US Women's Amateur Championship at Bandon Dunes in Oregon held from August 4-10.  
Elzinga, who is headed into her sophomore year at BGSU, looks to have another strong season in the Orange and Brown as she was one of six Falcons named as an All-American Scholar by the Women's Golf Coaches Association.  
The BGSU women's golf team is also coming off its best season in program history, finishing second at the MAC Championships and earning an invite to the National Golf Invitational.
