BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University gymnastics program has named Hannah Hartung an assistant coach, as announced by head coach Brittney Emmons. Hartung joins the Falcons after a year as an assistant coach at the University of Alaska Anchorage, where she began her coaching career.
"I am excited to have Hannah join our staff," said Emmons. "Her experience and knowledge as a former MAC gymnast will be a huge asset to our program."
In her lone season at Alaska Hartung was the lead coach on bars and helped the Seawolves to their second-highest road score ever.
Hartung, a former standout at Eastern Michigan University, brings extensive experience as a student-athlete in the Mid-American Conference (MAC). She competed on uneven bars, vault, and floor exercise for the Eagles, establishing herself as a top performer on bars with a career-best score of 9.875. In her final collegiate meet at the 2023 MAC Championships, Hartung posted a 9.825 on bars and recorded five scores of 9.700 or higher on bars during the season. An Academic All-MAC honoree, she balanced her athletic pursuits with academic success, earning her degree in aviation management and a minor in business in 2023.
"It's great to be back in the MAC," said Hartung. "It feels like home. Go Falcons!"
Hartung's gymnastics journey began in her hometown of Lincoln, Neb., where she competed at Solid Rock Gymnastics. As a youth gymnast, she achieved notable accolades, including being a four-time national qualifier, a regional beam champion, and a state bar champion.
Hartung is married to Baldvin Magnusson, a professional track & field athlete who represents Iceland.
