BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Bowling Green State University head gymnastics coach Brittney Emmons has announced the addition of two coaches to the Falcon staff. Veteran coach Stephen Avgerinos joins the program as an assistant coach, while Megan Keller will serve as a volunteer assistant coach.

"I am thrilled to be welcoming Steve and Megan to the Falcon family," Emmons said. "I have had the pleasure of working with Steve at various camps and clinics and am excited for him to bring his experience to our program. He is a very technical coach that will continue to help develop our athletes on all events."

Avgerinos, who is the lead assistant coach, arrives at Bowling Green after five seasons at the University of New Hampshire, where he served as associate head coach and recruiting coordinator since 2019. With the Wildcats, he was responsible for daily training, recruiting, and program operations, while also serving as a technician and spotter on all four events. He helped guide UNH to the 2020 East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) regular-season championship.

"I am really excited to be part of the program here at Bowling Green," said Avgerinos. "I've had great experiences with everyone I've met throughout the process, especially the athletes. It's a wonderful group, and I'm so glad to share this journey with them. We're all ready to get to work and build something special here."

Prior to his time at UNH, Avgerinos spent nearly two decades at his alma mater, Illinois State University (1999–2003; 2005–19), rising to associate head coach. At ISU, he helped lead the Redbirds to two NCAA Regional team appearances and two Midwest Independent Conference (MIC) championships. He was twice named MIC Assistant Coach of the Year (2006, 2009). Avgerinos coached all four events, coordinated vault and uneven bars choreography, managed recruiting, and oversaw daily team operations.

A native of Lansing, Ill., Avgerinos earned both his bachelor's degree in biological sciences and a master's degree in biomechanics from Illinois State. While at ISU, he was a self-taught tumbler, a four-year cheerleader, and a member of the Gamma Phi Circus, the university's student-run circus.

Keller joins the Falcons as a volunteer assistant coach after recently serving as a student manager at Penn State. In that role, she assisted with daily program needs and gained experience in team operations. She will now transition into a coaching capacity at the collegiate level, providing a fresh perspective and developing her own coaching style under the mentorship of the BGSU staff.

"I am also excited to have Megan step into the college coaching role," said Emmons. "She brings experience as a student-manager from a Big Ten program that will provide new perspectives for our team. We are ready to teach her the ins and outs of college athletics and help her grow into her own coaching style. The experience of this complete staff will help grow and develop each of our athletes and be the next steppingstone for the BGSU Gymnastics program."

Avgerinos and Keller join a staff that already features Ciera Martin, who enters her second season with the Falcons.
