ATHENS, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University women's soccer team saw the 2024 season come to an end on Sunday afternoon (Nov. 3). The Falcons fell, 1-0, to Ohio University in Mid-American Conference Tournament quarterfinal-round action at Chessa Field.

The Bobcats (11-4-4 [5-3-3 MAC]), the third seed for the six-team tournament, got what proved to be the lone goal of the match in the 15th minute. Despite holding a 7-3 lead in shots on the afternoon, the sixth-seeded Falcons (7-7-4 [4-4-3 MAC]) were unable to find the equalizer.

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS
• In the 11th minute, the Falcons had a chance as an Emme Butera corner kick sailed past Ohio goalkeeper Celeste Sloma and went toward the far post. The ball deflected off of Taylor Green, and the sophomore recovered to fire a shot, but it was blocked by a defender for a 'team save.'
• The Bobcats took the lead in the 15th minute, as Ella.Deevers took a left-side cross and poked the ball into the back of the net.
Emma Stransky and Brynn Gardner teamed up to steal the ball from an Ohio player as the match neared the half-hour mark. Gardner slid a pass to Lexi Czerwien to her left, and Czerwien hit a shot as she entered the penalty area. An Ohio player was able to lunge and block the shot at the last second, and the ball bounced to Sloma, who covered up.
• Less than three minutes into the second half, the Bobcats had a golden opportunity to double the lead, as Aubrey Rea came up with an errant BG pass near the 18-yard line. Rea fired a hard shot, and it appeared that BGSU goalkeeper Payton O'Malley had tracked the shot, but in any event, it sailed just over the crossbar.
• Just over 50 minutes into the match, Stransky was fouled approximately 25 yards away from goal. Butera took the ensuing free kick, and hit a hard, curving shot on frame. But, Sloma was able to leap and tip the shot over the bar.
• In the 65th minute, Michelle Hochstadt took a pass from Czerwien on the left side of the pitch, and sent a diagonal ball toward the far post. But, the cross/shot was just out of reach of several teammates and bounced wide of the goal.
• Midway through the second half, Butera blocked an attempted cross by an Ohio player near the end line and remained on the ground. She was forced to leave the field for the first time in 2024. Off of the ensuing corner kick, Emily Hollar – who had subbed into the match for Butera – blocked a shot out of play. Butera returned to the match less than a minute after leaving.
• With just over eight minutes to go, Butera played a gorgeous diagonal ball into the box from the left side. But, Sloma was there to grab it just before Stransky could arrive.
