Czerwien Named MAC Offensive Player of the Week
Bowling Green State University women's soccer standout Lexi Czerwien has been named the Mid-American Conference Offensive Player of the Week. The league office made the announcement on Tuesday afternoon (Oct. 8).
Czerwien has earned a MAC weekly honor for the first time in her BGSU career.
Czerwien, a native of Rochester Hills, Mich. (Rochester), was involved in the scoring of both BGSU goals in the Falcons' lone match of the week, a 2-1 win over Northern Illinois at Cochrane Stadium on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 5). Czerwien had an assist on Emma Stransky's goal that opened the scoring late in the first half.
Then, in the 50th minute, Czerwien scored what would prove to be the game-winning goal, breaking a 1-1 tie. The three-point game was the first of her career.
On the season, Czerwien leads the Falcons in goals, with four, and points, with nine. She is tied for the BGSU lead with two GWG.
The Falcons have an overall record of 6-3-2, and BGSU is 3-1-1 in the MAC, good for a tie for second place in the 12-team conference. Both BGSU and Buffalo have 10 points, just one point behind league-leading Western Michigan.
And, the Falcons face both of those teams this week. BGSU heads to Kalamazoo for a Thursday afternoon (Oct. 10) matchup with WMU, before returning home to meet UB on Sunday (Oct. 13). The WMU game begins at 4:00 p.m. at the WMU Soccer Complex, with Sunday's UB bout set for a 1:00 p.m. first touch at Cochrane Stadium. Admission is free to all BGSU home regular-season matches.
