Kyle Pettican Named to BGSU Women's Soccer Staff
Bowling Green State University women's soccer head coach Chris Fox has announced the addition of Kyle Pettican to his staff. Pettican joins the Falcons after a variety of coaching experiences at multiple levels in the Philadelphia area.
"I'm excited to add Kyle to our staff," said Fox. "Kyle is a highly motivated and hard-working individual who is always looking to improve himself. He cares about the details, possesses a growth mindset and has shown he will go above and beyond what is asked of him. I have no doubt Kyle will have a big impact on our program moving forward."
Pettican comes to Northwest Ohio after spending the last seven years working in various capacities with the Philadelphia Union. During the last year, he was assistant coach for the Union Development Squad within the Philadelphia Union Academy. His duties included assisting the head coach on match days, helping to create and lead training sessions and independent development plans for players.
Pettican had spent the previous six years coaching numerous youth teams within the Philadelphia Union program. He also served as the Boys and Girls 11v11 Director of Coaching with Pennsylvania Rush Soccer in Doylestown, Pa., overseeing all teams while completing written game-day and training evaluations for all U13-19 coaches. He also was head coach for the 2006 boys, 2007 boys and 2009 girls teams with the PA Rush.
"I am honored to be appointed the newest member of the Bowling Green Women's Soccer program," said Pettican. "I would like to thank Coach Chris and Derek van der Merwe for welcoming me to the BG family. They have shown great faith in my ability to contribute in the growth and success of the program.
"I would like to thank my family for the never-ending support as we open up the next chapter in our lives. The love that the community has for this University is unmatched and we cannot wait to be a part of it."
In 2017, Pettican co-founded the youth club Unity FC LLC, beginning with two teams in that first year. Since that time, over 300 athletes have come through the program. Pettican has served as head coach of multiple teams, as well as handling all facets of running the program including administrative work, finances and budgeting, website and social media duties, staff recruitment and management and other duties as assigned.
Pettican coached the boys soccer program at Central Bucks South from 2022-24, and was named the Colonial Division Coach of the Year as he led the team to the first division title in school history. And, in his second season, Pettican guided the Titans all the way to the state championship match.
His experiences also include coaching the U19 boys ODP team for Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer Association from 2020-21, and he coached multiple teams at West-Mont United Soccer Association prior to creating Unity FC. Pettican also was the junior varsity head coach and varsity assistant coach at West Chester East H.S. from 2017-18.
Pettican began his coaching career as a lead coach for British European Soccer Training (B.E.S.T.) in 2011, and was promoted to camp director in 2014. He also coached for FC Europa, his childhood club, from 2014-17.
Pettican played collegiately at Cabrini University from 2014-16, and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the school in 2018. He earned his M.S. in Soccer Coaching Education and Sports Science from Ohio University in 2022.
He played professionally for Delaware Stars FC from 2016-17, and has also played for multiple amateur clubs, including West-Mont United, Unity FC and Colonial SC.
Pettican received his United Soccer Coaches Advanced National Diploma in 2021 and is currently completing his A-License with U.S. Soccer.
