CONWAY, S.C. – The Bowling Green State University softball team dropped a pair of games on Saturday (March 1), in day-two action at the Chanticleer Showdown. The University of Wisconsin posted a 6-5 win over the Falcons, who then fell, 4-0, to the University of Connecticut at St. John Stadium.

The Falcons (3-10) pounded out 10 hits against the Badgers, with eight of BGSU's nine starters in the batting order picking up at least one hit. But, UW used the long ball to take the lead in a four-run sixth inning.

And, UConn's Hope Jenkins allowed just one BG hit in the second game of the day.

BGSU-WISCONSIN – HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Falcons took an early lead with a two-out rally in the top of the first inning. After UW starter Kendra Lewis struck out the first two batters, Hannah Hunt walked and advanced to second on a wild pitch.
• Back-to-back singles by Cameron Kaufman and Taylor Behrendt moved Hunt up one base each, and she crossed the plate on Behrendt's hit. Ashley Chevalier walked to load the bases, and Peyton Steffes singled to score both Kaufman and Behrendt.
• The Badgers put two runners aboard in the bottom of the inning, on a one-out double by Alivia Bark and a two-out walk, but Mackenzie Krafcik got an inning-ending ground ball back to the circle.
• And, the Falcons struck with two outs again in the second. Katie Hutter had singled with one down, and she took third on Hunt's two-out single. Then, Kaufman followed with a run-scoring double.
• Krafcik retired the Badgers in order in the second.
• Emmy Wells and Molly Schlosser had back-to-back doubles to lead off the UW third and put the Badgers on the board, and Bark followed with a two-base hit to cut the BG lead to 4-2.
Morgan Beckham entered the circle, and the freshman struck out Emily Bojan before getting the next two batters to hit fly-ball outs.
• Danielle Lucey walked to begin the Badger fourth, but was out on a runner-left-early call Then, Brooke Kuffel doubled, and pinch-runner Makenzie Foster advanced to third on a wild pitch. Beckham struck out Ellie Hubbard, however, and induced Wells to hit a popup that second baseman Hunt gloved in foul territory.
• BGSU scored a run in the fifth when Kaufman reached second on an outfield error, took third on a Behrendt ground ball and scored on Chevalier's single.
• Beckham set the Badgers down in order in the fifth.
• The Falcons got a pair of extra-base hits in the sixth. Kendal Mathews led off with a double, but was out attempting to advance to third on Hutter's fly ball. Addie Martin then tripled with two outs, but a strikeout ended the half-inning.
• The Badgers took the lead with a four-run sixth. Hilary Blomberg led off the inning with a homer, and Hannah Conger reached on a bunt single.
Lucey was hit by a pitch, prompting a BGSU pitching change.
Madi Young came on for the Falcons, and Kuffel laid down a sacrifice bunt that put runners at second and third. A sac fly off the bat of Hubbard scored Conger, and Wells followed with a two-run homer that gave the Badgers the lead.
• Shelby Jacobson set down the Falcons in the seventh to close out the win. She allowed just one earned run in her 6 2/3 innings of relief work.
• Kaufman and Martin each had two hits to lead BGSU's 10-hit attack. Kaufman also scored two runs, while Steffes drove in a pair of teammates for the Orange and Brown.

BGSU-UCONN – HOW IT HAPPENED
• Lexi Hastings began the game with an infield single and stole second. She advanced to third on a fly ball, and scored on a two-out single by Rosie Garcia.
• The second inning saw the Huskies add to the lead. Cat Petteys walked, and Kaitlyn Breslin singled, but Petteys was out attempting to advance to third ont he play. Breslin advanced to second on the throw to third, and scored on a double by Savannah Ring.
• In the third, a two-out homer by Garcia gave the Huskies a 3-0 lead, and it became a four-run advantage after Hope Jenkins singled, Petteys walked and Breslin followed with an RBI single.
Scarlet Anderson entered the circle and got the final out of the inning. She retired the first seven batters she faced before Petteys drew a leadoff walk in the sixth. But, Petteys was thrown out attempting to steal second, and Anderson retired the next two batters.
• Anderson left the game after walking a pair of hitters in the seventh, but Madi Young came on and got a fly ball to center that resulted in a double play.
• Anderson pitched very well in relief, throwing 3 2/3 innings of scoreless, no-hit ball.
• But, the damage had been done, as UConn's early runs were more than enough for Jenkins. She pitched six innings of shutout, one-hit ball, walking one and striking out seven. Amber Bretton pitched the final inning for the Huskies.
