Gardner, Falcons Add Five to Program
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Bowling Green State University softball coach Michelle Gardner has announced the addition of five student-athletes to the program. Sienna Hutchins (Raymond, Ohio), Lexi Nolen (Scottsdale, Ariz.), Valyn Pattengale (Daleville, Ind.), Quinn Rives (Round Rock, Texas) and Hannah Simko (Canton, Mich.) have joined the Falcon family and will attend BGSU beginning in the fall of 2025.
SIENNA HUTCHINS
Raymond, Ohio (Marysville H.S.)
• Undecided in business, but plans to minor in political science at BGSU
• Chose BGSU because of the opportunity within the education and softball program
• A four-year letterwinner who was a two-time all-conference selection
• Named to the all-district first team, and is a three-time scholar athlete
• Has played travel ball for Ohio Hawks National Joseforsky
COACH GARDNER ON HUTCHINS: "Sienna is a true utility who can play multiple positions and brings speed to her game. She is someone who will walk in and make a difference, challenging her teammates around her with her work ethic and drive."
LEXI NOLEN
Scottsdale, Ariz. (Horizon H.S.)
• Is excited and honored to continue her education and softball goals at BGSU, where she plans on majoring in business
• Was named her team's offensive player of the year last season
• Also earned first-team all-district as well as all-region first-team honors for Horizon
• Has played travel ball for Arizona Rising VELA
COACH GARDNER ON NOLEN: "Lexi has power to all fields and she will see time on the corners. We expect her to have an immediate impact on the field. She is very driven and will push everyone to be better every day."
VALYN PATTENGALE
Daleville, Ind. (Daleville H.S.)
• Plans to major in journalism
• Chose BGSU because of the school spirit and culture – every athlete she's talked to from BGSU takes pride in being a Falcon, and that's something she wants to be a part of
• A two-time all-state selection
• Also has earned all-area, all-conference and all-county honors twice each
• Has played travel ball for Indiana Phoenix 05/06 Premier as well as Texas Glory
COACH GARDNER ON PATTENGALE: "Valyn is a catcher/infielder with a very strong arm, who can hit for power from the right side. She is very high energy and has the ability to bring people up with her."
QUINN RIVES
Round Rock, Texas (Cedar Ridge H.S.)
• Chose BGSU because of the tight-knit atmosphere of the community
• Plans to study biochemistry to hopefully become a dermatologist
• Was a first-team all-district selection
• Also was named her team's defensive MVP
• Has played travel ball for 18u Texas Glory Gold
COACH GARDNER ON RIVES: "Quinn is a true utility who can play infield and outfield. She has power with a good mix of speed as well. We love her passion and dedication to the game, combined with her hustle. She goes hard in everything she does."
HANNAH SIMKO
Canton, Mich. (Plymouth H.S.)
• Plans to major in elementary education
• Chose BGSU because she loves the atmosphere and the coaching staff, and can't wait to get to BG next fall
• Earned all-district and all-conference honors, and was nominated for player of the year
• Has played travel ball for Beverly Bandits 18u Stone
COACH GARDNER ON SIMKO: "Hannah is a very versatile slapper who combines power and speed. She will put constant pressure on defenses and create chaos on the base paths. She is the definition of a gamer, with good instincts and good knowledge of the game."
Gardner and the Falcons will begin the 2025 season on Feb. 7, at a tournament hosted by USC Upstate. The entire 2025 schedule will be announced later this week.
