NORMAN, Okla. – The Bowling Green State University softball team gave the four-time defending national champions everything they could handle and more on Monday (Feb. 24), but #2/2 Oklahoma University picked up an 8-5 victory over the Falcons in extra innings. The thriller, part of final-day action at the Norman Tournament, took place at Love's Field.

Then, the Falcons headed over to Marita Hynes Field and posted a come-from-behind win over the University of Tulsa. BGSU fell behind on two occasions, but the Falcons scored a total of eight runs in their final two innings for a 9-4 victory.

Ashley Chevalier and Hanna Massaro each had two hits for the Falcons (3-7) against the Sooners, while Addie Martin went 3-for-3 with a homer against the Golden Hurricane. Taylor Behrendt also had three hits vs. Tulsa (6-8), and Behrendt and Cameron Kaufman each drove in three runs in the latter game.

Scarlet Anderson pitched three and one-third innings of one-run, three-hit relief against the Sooners (14-0 after a run-rule win over Abilene Christian later on Monday), while Mackenzie Krafcik allowed two hits and three runs – all unearned – in her two-and-two-thirds-innings stint.

Krafcik pitched in both games, picking up the win in relief against Tulsa with two innings of one-hit shutout ball. Freshman Sydney Marshall started against the Golden Hurricane and took a no-hitter into the fifth inning.

BGSU-OKLAHOMA – HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Falcons could not have scripted a better start to Monday's opener, as BGSU scored three times in the top of the first inning against the four-time defending national champions.
Katie Hutter drew a walk against OU starter Audrey Lowry to begin the game, and Addie Martin was hit by a pitch. Then, Hannah Hunt singled to left to plate Hutter and put runners at the corners. Martin scored on a Cameron Kaufman grounder, and after another grounder, Ashley Chevalier's single to left scored Hunt with the Falcons' third run.
• The Sooners put their first two batters of the game on base, as Ailana Agbayani and Ella Parker each drew walks. On a double-steal attempt, catcher Chevalier and shortstop Kaufman combined to cut down Agbayani attempting to steal third.
• Another walk and a hit batter loaded the bases for the Sooners, but BGSU starter Madi Young proceeded to strike out Tia Milloy for the second out. Then, Sydney Barker lifted a ball to shallow right, and second baseman Hunt made a diving catch to end the inning and strand three Sooners.
• Young retired the first two batters in the second, but the Sooners responded with a big two-out rally. After an Abigale Dayton double and walks to Agbayani and Parker, Cydney Sanders came through with a grand slam to give the hosts a 4-3 lead.
Scarlet Anderson came on in relief, and after a walk, Barker beat out a ground ball in the hole – despite a nice diving stop by Kaufman – to load the bases once more. But, Anderson got Nelly McEnroe-Marinas to hit a fly ball to Kendall Mathews in center for the third out.
• In the third, Anderson worked around a leadoff walk, striking out Dayton before getting a pair of ground balls to retire the side.
Taylor Behrendt began the fourth inning with an infield single, ending a streak of seven-straight hitters retired by Lowry. Then, on a bunt by Chevalier, both BG runners were safe when the throw to second went into shallow center. The Sooners got a popup to third for the first out, but Hanna Massaro's perfectly-placed bunt resulted in a single that loaded the bases. And, Mathews tied the game as her check-swing flare sailed over the glove of the leaping shortstop, with Behrendt scoring and the bases remaining loaded. But, a double-play ball ended the inning.
• Anderson worked a perfect fourth inning, getting a ground ball to short before striking out back-to-back batters. The senior got Kasidi Pickering swinging and Milloy looking to send the game to the fifth.
• Martin was hit by a pitch to lead off the fifth inning against Keirston Deal, but the OU reliever got out of the inning otherwise unscathed.
• Anderson worked another 1-2-3 inning in the fifth, getting a fly ball to shallow right and a grounder to third, with Martin making a nice grab of the latter ball. Then, Anderson got Isabela Emerling looking to retire the side.
• Chevalier laced a ball to right-center for a one-out double in the sixth, as her liner went beyond the outstretched glove of OU right fielder Parker in the gap. Then, Peyton Steffes drilled a ball over the head of Parker for another double, with pinch-runner Delaney Davis coming around to give the Falcons a 5-4 lead.
• The next hitter, Massaro, beat out a slow roller to short, with Steffes forced to hold at second on the infield single. The Falcons' second out came on a 'strikeout' due to an action clock violation, but Deal then walked Hutter on four pitches to load the bases. The OU hurler, however, got another strikeout to end the inning.
• Dayton led off the Sooners' half of the sixth inning by beating out a bunt, ending a streak of nine-straight batters retired by Anderson. Then, Agbayani's single to right put runners at the corners with no outs.
Mackenzie Krafcik replaced Anderson in the circle, and Parker lifted a ball to left. Steffes made a nice running catch near the line, but Dayton tagged and scored from third on the sacrifice fly to tie the game. Martin threw out Sanders on a grounder to third for the second out, forcing Agbayani to hold at second.
• Then, Pickering drew a walk to put two runners aboard, but Kaufman gloved Milloy's grounder up the middle, racing to the second-base bag and beating Pickering there for an inning-ending force play.
• Sam Landry entered the circle for the Sooners to begin the seventh, and struck out the side. Pinch-hitter Gabbie Garcia led off the bottom of the inning, and grounded out to short, with Kaufman's throw to first beating Garcia's headfirst dive. Then, Kaufman grabbed a popup by McEnroe-Marina on the next pitch. And, on the very next pitch after that, Kaufman gloved an Emerling grounder and fired to Behrendt at first, sending the game to extras.
• Landry again set down the Falcons in the eighth, and Dayton roped a ball to deep center to begin the bottom of the inning, but Mathews tracked it down to make the catch a few feet in front of the wall.
• Then, Behrendt made a diving stop of ball by Agbayani, racing to beat the OU hitter to the bag. Parker singled up the middle, however, just past the glove of Krafcik, for a two-out single, and she then stole second.
• An infield error put runners at the corners, as Parker passed in front of the BG fielder just before Sanders's ground ball arrived. Then, Pickering homered to right-center to give the second-ranked Sooners the extra-inning win.
• Both teams had eight hits, with Chevalier and Massaro each picking up two hits vs. the nationally-ranked foes.
• In the circle, Anderson allowed just one run and three hits in three-and-a-third innings of relief work. Krafcik surrendered three runs – all unearned – giving up two hits in her two-and-two-thirds innings of action.
• Pickering and Dayton each had two hits for the hosts, with Sanders driving in four runs and Pickering three.

BGSU-TULSA – HOW IT HAPPENED
• After a narrow, extra-innings loss to the number-two team in the nation, the Falcons had to quickly get ready to play another game, at a different venue. BGSU headed from Love's Field to Marita Hynes Field to take on Tulsa.
• Both teams put a pair of runners on base in the first inning, but neither team could crack the scoreboard. BGSU starting pitcher Sydney Marshall issued a pair of walks, and a ground ball back to the circle put both runners in scoring position. But, the Falcon freshman got Maci Cole to hit a fly ball to right to end the inning.
Addie Martin and Hannah Hunt had back-to-back one-out singles in the Falcon first, before UT starter Abby Hayes recovered to retire the next two hitters.
• In the second, Marshall worked around a one-out walk, and Ashley Chevalier led off the bottom half of the inning with a base on balls. She advanced to second on a ground ball, and Kendall Mathews drew a two-out walk. But, another ground ball ended the threat.
• Marshall got back-to-back-to-back ground balls in the third inning, and Martin then led off the bottom of the inning with a homer to left-center, her second of the season. Taylor Behrendt had a two-out single later in the frame, before Hayes got out number three.
• Claira Skaggs reached on an error to begin the fourth, but Marshall set down the next three hitters to maintain the one-run lead. The Falcon freshman took a no-hitter into the fifth inning, before Faith Russell broke it up with a two-out infield single. Celeste Wood followed with an infield hit of her own, and Annika Dill followed that with a double to left that tied the game.
• Skaggs then hit a ball down the left-field line for another double, plating two runners and giving the Golden Hurricane a 3-1 lead. Marshall responded by getting Cole looking for the third out.
Katie Hutter led off the Falcon fifth with a single through the right side, chasing Hayes, and Martin greeted new pitcher Alexa Hopkins with an infield hit to put two runners aboard.
• With a strikeout and a ground ball back to the circle, it looked as if Hopkins might escape the jam, but Behrendt came through with a two-out, two-run double to left that tied the game, 3-3.
• The Hurricane responded in the sixth. Amber Turner drew a leadoff walk, and prompted a BGSU pitching change. A sac bunt moved Turner to second, and after Elle Rouse was hit by a Mackenzie Krafcik pitch, a wild pitch advanced both runners, and a Whitney Holcomb groundout plated Turner with the go-ahead run.
• But, the Falcons responded as well. Hanna Massaro drew a one-out walk, and the freshman came all the way around to score when Mathews lined a ball into the right-field corner for a triple. Hutter followed with a single up the middle that plated Mathews to give BG the lead.
• Brinly Maples, who pitched a shutout against the Falcons on Saturday, replaced Hopkins in the circle, and promptly hit Martin with a pitch before walking Hunt to load the bases. And, Cameron Kaufman emptied those bases with a three-run double to the gap in right-center. The Falcons had a five-run inning and an 8-4 lead.
• And, Behrendt became the seventh-straght Falcon to reach base with a single up the middle that scored pinch-runner Kaylee Cole.
• Katie Dunakin, the fourth pitcher of the game (and the third of the inning) for the Golden Hurricane, came on and retired the next two batters, but the damage had been done.
• In the seventh, Krafcik got Wood to pop up to Hunt at second, and induced Dill to hit a ground ball to Kaufman at short. Skaggs reached base on a two-out single, but Cole's foul pop settled into the glove of Hunt for the final out.
• Martin reached base in all four of her plate appearances, going 3-for-3 with a homer and being hit by a pitch. She scored three runs in the win.
• Behrendt was 3-for-3 with a double and three RBI, while Kaufman drove in three runs as well.
• Skaggs was the lone Tulsa batter with a multi-hit game, as she was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI.
• Krafcik picked up the win with two innings of one-hit shutout relief. Marshall, as mentioned, took a no-hitter into the fifth inning, and allowed three earned runs and four hits in the game.
