Addie Martin Named D1Softball National Freshman of the Week
Bowling Green State University softball standout Addie Martin has been named the D1Softball National Freshman of the Week. The announcement was made by the website on Tuesday afternoon (March 25).
Also on Tuesday, Martin was featured on the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Top Performances of the Week.
Martin, a native of Dover, Ohio (Dover H.S.), hit .579 with a 1.211 slugging pct. as the Falcons went 4-1 last week. BGSU (10-18, 4-2 Mid-American Conference) have topped the overall and conference win totals for all of last season.
Martin went 11-of-19 with eight runs scored and five extra-base hits in BG's five games. The infielder began her week by going 4-for-4 with two homers in a win over Green Bay last Tuesday (March 18). Martin hit a homer in each of her first two plate appearances at Meserve Field, BG's home field. She scored three runs and had three RBI in that win. Martin then had two hits, including a triple, in the second game of the DH, meaning that she began her home career by going 6-for-6 with 14 total bases.
Then, on Friday (March 21), Martin went 2-for-3 with a double, another homer, two runs scored and two RBI in a run-rule win over Kent State. She followed that up with a 2-for-4 performance, stealing two bases and scoring twice, in the nightcap of that twinbill.
On Saturday (March 22), Martin had another hit and scored a run in BG's victory in the final game of the series, clinching the Falcons' first three-game series sweep in MAC play in over three years (since April 1-2, 2022).
Martin has become just the second player in school history with at least 10 homers and 10 stolen bases in a season.
The Falcons continue a season-long 10-game homestand with five games at Meserve Field this week. BGSU hosts Youngstown State on Wednesday afternoon (March 26), in a 2:00 p.m. doubleheader, before facing Ball State in a three-game weekend series, including a Friday (March 28) single game and a Saturday (March 29) double-dip at Meserve Field.
