BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Redshirt freshman Addie Martin homered in both games Saturday (March 8), as the Bowling Green State University softball team split a pair of contests at the Hoosier Classic. BGSU picked up a 7-2 win over IU Indianapolis, before falling to host Indiana University at Andy Mohr Field.

Scarlet Anderson picked up the win in relief for the Falcons (5-15) in the opener, with five innings of shutout ball. She allowed just three hits, walking one and striking out four.

At the plate against the Jaguars, Hannah Hunt, Katie Hutter and Hanna Massaro each had two hits, with Hutter scoring twice and Hunt driving in a pair. Martin had three RBI in the win.

Game two saw the Hoosiers take control with a big second inning en route to the 12-3 win. BGSU got three runs back in the third, including a two-run shot by Martin, but could draw no closer.

BGSU-IUI – HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Jags got an unearned run in the top of the first. Molly Kable singled with two outs, and continued on to second when the ball got past a BGSU outfielder. Then, the next hitter, Tori Candler, singled to score Kable.
• It didn't take long for the Falcons to respond. Katie Hutter led off the Falcon first with a walk, and promptly stole second. Then, Addie Martin unloaded on a Clara Phariss pitch, depositing it into the grass beyond the left-field fence to give the Falcons a 2-1 lead.
• BGSU starter Alyvia Roth worked around a leadoff single in the second, getting three-straight outs after that, and the Falcons increased the lead in the bottom of the inning. Hanna Massaro led off with a bunt single, and she advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Kendall Mathews. Then, Hutter tripled to right-center to score Massaro and chase Phariss.
• Callie Dickerson entered the circle, and Martin hit a fly ball to right, with Hutter tagging and scoring on the sac fly.
• The Jags began the third inning with back-to-back walks, and Scarlet Anderson entered the game for the Falcons. The reliever got a double-play ball, and after allowing an RBI single through the right side, got an inning-ending ground ball to short.
Taylor Behrendt and Massaro each singled in the third, and both Hutter and Cameron Kaufman had hits in the fourth, but BGSU could not add to the lead.
• Meanwhile, Anderson worked a 1-2-3 fourth inning, with a pair of strikeouts, then worked around a leadoff single in the fifth.
• In the sixth, Kable walked, but was erased on a double-play ball, and Anderson then struck out Kinsey Pfeiffer. And, BGSU broke the game open in the bottom of the inning.
• Mathews led off with a walk, after an 11-pitch at-bat which included six foul balls, and Hutter then was hit by a Dickerson pitch. Martin laid down a bunt, and everyone was safe on an infield error. Then, Hunt's triple gave the Falcons a 6-2 lead.
• The inning continues, as Kaufman was hit by a pitch before stealing second. Behrendt walked, before Hunt scored on a Peyton Steffes ground ball to the right side. Pinch-hitter Ava McKee walked to reload the bases, before Dickerson and the Jags finally got out of the inning.
• In the seventh, IU Indy put the first two runners aboard via an error and a single. But, Anderson got a fielder's-choice grounder, then retired the next two hitters to close out the win.

BGSU-IU – HOW IT HAPPENED
• BGSU put two runners aboard against IU starter Jasmine Reyes, as Katie Hutter began the game with an infield single, and Hannah Hunt went the other way for a one-out hit. But, a fielder's choice produced the second out and a ground ball to first ended the threat.
Madi Young set down the Hoosiers in the first, but IU would explode for eight second-inning runs. The big hits were two-run homers by Brianna Copeland and Avery Parker.
• BGSU struck back in the third. Hutter walked, and Addie Martin hit a two-run homer to right. Hunt then singled, took second on a wild pitch and advanced to third on a popup. She would score easily when Behrendt's fly ball was misplayed in right field.
• But, in the fourth, Melina Wilkison doubled, Copeland doubled, and a Taylor Minnick double plated both runners. Scarlet Anderson entered the game and got a pair of outs, but a single plated a run, and after another single, IU scored another run on a throwing error.
• Of IU's 13 hits in the game, seven came in the second inning and five in the fourth.
• Hunt was a perfect 3-for-3 against the Hoosiers. For the hosts, four players had two hits apiece.
