A pair of BGSU softball standouts have combined to sweep the Mid-American Conference's weekly awards. Addie Martin has been named the MAC Player of the Week, while Mackenzie Krafcik is the MAC Pitcher of the Week.

CLEVELAND, Ohio (BGSU Strategic Comm.) -- A pair of Bowling Green State University softball standouts have combined to sweep the Mid-American Conference's weekly awards. Addie Martin has been named the MAC Player of the Week, while Mackenzie Krafcik is the MAC Pitcher of the Week.

The awards were announced on Tuesday afternoon (March 25) by the conference office. Both Martin and Krafcik earn league weekly honor for the first time in their respective BGSU careers.

Martin adds to her list of awards. Earlier on Tuesday, she was named the National Freshman of the Week by D1Softball, and she was also mentioned on the list of Louisville Slugger/NFCA Top Performances of the Week.

Martin, a native of Dover, Ohio (Dover H.S.), hit .579 with a 1.211 slugging pct. as the Falcons went 4-1 last week. Martin went 11-of-19 with eight runs scored and five extra-base hits in BG's five games. The redshirt freshman began her week by going 4-for-4 with two homers in a win over Green Bay last Tuesday (March 18). Martin hit a homer in each of her first two plate appearances at Meserve Field. She scored three runs and had three RBI in that win. Martin then had two hits, including a triple, in the second game of the DH, meaning that she began her home career by going 6-for-6 with 14 total bases.

Then, on Friday (March 21), Martin went 2-for-3 with a double, another homer, two runs scored and two RBI in a run-rule win over Kent State. She followed that up with a 2-for-4 performance, stealing two bases and scoring twice, in the nightcap of that twinbill. On Saturday (March 22), Martin had another hit and scored a run in BG's victory in the final game of the series, clinching the Falcons' first three-game series sweep in MAC play in over three years. Martin has become just the second player in school history with at least 10 homers and 10 stolen bases in a season.

Krafcik, who hails from Aurora, Ohio (Aurora H.S.), had a 3-0 record and a 1.19 earned-run average last week. The junior pitched in four of BGSU's five games, with the Falcons winning all four. Krafcik threw a total of 17 2/3 innings on the week, including BGSU's first two complete games of the season. She fired a complete game in the Falcons' home opener, allowing just one run and five hits in a 6-1 victory over Green Bay. Then, she threw another complete game three days later, allowing zero earned runs in a six-inning victory over KSU. Krafcik struck out three Golden Flashes and did not walk a batter in that win.

Krafcik then pitched 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief in the second game of the day, picking up the win when BGSU rallied for four runs in the seventh inning to win, 7-6. Then, she started the final game of the series, pitching the first 3 1/3 innings while allowing two earned runs and leaving the game with her team holding a lead they would not relinquish.

The Falcons have topped the overall and conference win totals for all of last season. BGSU is 10-18 overall and 4-2 in the MAC this season, after going 6-38 overall and 3-23 in the league last season.

BGSU continues a season-long 10-game homestand with five games at Meserve Field this week. The Falcons host Youngstown State on Wednesday afternoon (March 26), in a 2:00 p.m. doubleheader, before facing Ball State in a three-game weekend series, including a Friday (March 28) single game and a Saturday (March 29) double-dip at Meserve Field.
