CLEVELAND, Ohio (BGSU Strategic Comm.) -- Bowling Green State University softball standout Morgan Beckham has been named the Mid-American Conference's Pitcher of the Week. Beckham, a freshman, earns the honor for the first time in her young collegiate career.

The award was announced on Tuesday afternoon (April 15), while Beckham and the Falcons were taking on Ohio University at Meserve Field, by the conference office.

Beckham, a native of Middleburg, Fla. (Middleburg H.S.), had a tremendous weekend in the circle, with an ERA of 0.00 in 7 2/3 innings and an opponent batting average of just .038 in the Western Michigan series. Beckham pitched in all three games vs. the Broncos on the weekend. She got the final two outs of Friday's (April 11) game, both via strikeout.

Then, in Saturday's (April 12) opener, Beckham threw the first complete-game shutout of her young collegiate career as BG posted a run-rule win. Beckham faced just two batters over the minimum in that victory, allowing just one hit.  Later that day, Beckham entered the circle with runners on second and third and no outs in the sixth inning. She walked the first batter she faced, then proceeded to get out of that bases-loaded, no-outs jam by getting three-straight outs. In fact, after issuing the walk, Beckham retired six-straight Broncos to lock down the win.

Beckham allowed just one hit on the week, and lowered her season ERA by nearly a full run.

The Falcons have topped the overall and conference win totals for all of last season. Following the Ohio doubleheader on Tuesday, BGSU is 15-27 overall and 7-11 in the MAC this season, after going 6-38 overall and 3-23 in the league last season.

The Falcons head to Mount Pleasant for a three-game series with Central Michigan this weekend. The teams are slated to begin that series with a Friday (April 18) game, beginning at 3:00 p.m. at Margo Jonker Stadium. Then, the Falcons and Chippewas will meet in a Saturday (April 19) doubleheader, starting at 1:00 p.m.
