Women's Tennis Heads to Kalamazoo for MAC Individual Tournament
KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Six members of the BGSU tennis team will compete again this weekend, this time in the MAC Individuals tournament in Kalamazoo, Mich. held at the West Hills Athletic Club. With the event being an individuals tournament, competitors from each team in the MAC will play in both a singles tournament and a doubles tournament, without contributing towards a team score.
Tournament Preview: Doubles & Singles Events (Oct. 3–5)
The MAC Individuals will feature both doubles and singles competitions, running from Friday, October 3 to Sunday, October 5. Here's a breakdown of the schedule and format:
Doubles Tournament
- Start Time: Friday, Oct. 3 at 9:00 AM
- Format:
- 18 duos will compete in a single-elimination format.
- Matches 1 & 2: Play-in games to narrow the field to 16.
- Matches 3–10: First round of the 16-team bracket.
- By the end of Friday, 8 teams will remain (quarterfinalists).
- Saturday Schedule (Oct. 4):
- 9:00 AM: Quarterfinals (matches 11-14)
- 10:00 AM: Consolation matches for eliminated teams
- 11:00 AM: Semifinals (matches 15 and 16)
- Sunday Schedule (Oct. 5):
- 12:00 PM: Doubles Final (match 17)
Singles Tournament
- Start Time: Friday, Oct. 3 at 1:00 PM
- Format:
- 18 players in a single-elimination bracket.

Teams competing in the tournament were Bowling Green, Eastern Michigan, Oakland, Toledo, and Youngstown State. The tournament was not scored by team points, but rather each competitor's individual records. Players at the tournament each competed in three rounds of singles matches, and three rounds of doubles matches. Players were broken up into groups for singles matches and the players with the best record in each group were crowned group winners.
