Preview: Tennis Heads to Pennsylvania for Weekend Slate
SLIPPERY ROCK, Penn. – The BGSU tennis team will head to Pennsylvania this weekend for a pair of dual matches, beginning with Slippery Rock University on Saturday, Oct. 11, at 12 pm. The team will then travel to Indiana, Pennsylvania for a matchup with Indiana University of Pennsylvania on Sunday, Oct. 12 at 10 am.
Last Time Out
This weekend's matches mark the fourth weekend of competition in a row for the BGSU tennis team, as they prepare for their conference schedule in the spring. Last weekend, six members of the team competed at the MAC Fall Individual Championship, hosted by Western Michigan University. Tia Clemens made a run to the semifinals of the singles tournament, after winning her opening two matches. Clemens will look to continue being a force for the Falcons in singles play.
In doubles, newcomers Libby Blair and Kiera Taylor have developed a strong partnership, as they won their opening match at the MAC Individuals, but were bested 9-7 in the quarterfinals. Leticia Fonseca and Konstantina Adamopoulou have also shown a strong partnership, as they went 2-1 last weekend, winning their play in match, losing in their first-round match, but then closing out the weekend with a win in their consolation match.
Looking Ahead
Following this weekend's matches, the Falcons will return to action next weekend, as they travel to Champaign, Ill. to compete in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) fall regional championships hosted by the University of Illinois.

With the event being an individuals tournament, competitors from each team in the MAC will play in both a singles tournament and a doubles tournament, without contributing towards a team score.

Teams competing in the tournament were Bowling Green, Eastern Michigan, Oakland, Toledo, and Youngstown State. The tournament was not scored by team points, but rather each competitor's individual records. Players at the tournament each competed in three rounds of singles matches, and three rounds of doubles matches. Players were broken up into groups for singles matches and the players with the best record in each group were crowned group winners.
