BGSU Tennis Continues Non-Conference Competition at Valparaiso and UIC
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green Falcons will continue non-conference competition at Valparaiso and UIC. BGSU will travel to Valparaiso, Ind., to take on Valparaiso Beacons on Saturday Feb. 22 and then will follow it up the next day against UIC in Chicago, Ill.
Last Time Out
Last weekend, the Orange and Brown dropped a hard-fought 4-3 loss to the Youngstown State Penguins. Leticia Fonseca and Lucia Giao took a 6-1 win to start doubles play. Konstantina Adamopoulou and Qianyu Liu clinched the doubles point for the Falcons with a score of 7-6 (7-2). In singles, the Falcons were able to pick up two more points. Liu recorded her second victory of the day with a commanding 6-0, 6-2 victory at No.3 . Fonseca recorded a hard-fought victory after dropping the first set in a tiebreaker by a score of 6-7(5-7), 6-1, 1-0 (10-1) at the No.6 singles.
Opponent Outlook: Valparaiso
The Beacons are currently 3-4 on the season. BGSU and Valparaiso have faced a mutual opponent in Holy Cross College (Ind.). Valparaiso came away with a 7-0 victory against the Saints, while the Falcons came away with 5-2 victory. The Beacons faced the Northern Illinois Huskies last weekend in DeKalb, Ill., and lost 4-0.
Series History: Valparaiso
The Falcons and Beacons will be meeting for the third time in program history, with the Falcons holding a 2-0 record. Bowling Green is 1-0 on the road and at home. Collectively, in the two meetings, BGSU has given up only one point.
Opponent Outlook: UIC
The Flames are currently 3-2 on the season. UIC was picked second on the Mountain Valley Conference Preseason Poll. UIC will be matching up against MAC rival Toledo on Friday morning before finishing up the weekend against Bowling Green. The Flames will also be facing off against Eastern and Western Michigan to being the month of March.
Series History: UIC
The Flames and Falcons will be meeting for the 20th time in program history, with the Falcons holding a 7-12 record. BGSU is 3-6 on the road against the Flames and is hoping to break a two-match losing streak. The Orange and Brown will be looking for their first win in Chicago, Ill., since March 17, 2013, when the Falcons came away with a 5-2 victory.
