Clemens Named MAC Singles Player of the Week After Pair of No. 1 Wins
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Bowling Green sophomore Tia Clemens has been named the Mid-American Conference Women's Tennis Singles Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday (April 16). Clemens earns the honor after extending her win streak at the top singles position to three consecutive matches.
Clemens, a Cleveland native, continued her impressive run with back-to-back victories over quality opponents this past weekend. On Friday, she earned a gritty three-set win over Ball State's Elena Malykh, 6-3, 3-6, 6-2. She followed that up on Sunday with an epic showdown against Eastern Michigan's Daniella Shved, outlasting her in a thrilling 7-6 (9-7), 6-7 (5-7), 1-0 (12-10) battle.
Her recent surge began with a win over rival Toledo on April 6, giving her three straight victories at the No. 1 singles spot.
