Haintz and Staples Set For NCAA East Regional in Lexington
LEXINGTON, Ky. - Mateya Haintz and Bianca Staples will compete at the 2024 NCAA East Regional Preliminary this weekend, which will be held from May 22-25 at the UK Track and Field Complex. Mateya Haintz will compete in the hammer throw and Bianca Staples will compete in the triple jump. Haintz will be competing in her third NCAA Regionals while Staples will be competing in her first, both looking to punch their ticket to the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship in Eugene, Oregon.
Haintz will start the weekend off for the Falcons, competing in the hammer throw at 10 a.m. ET on Thursday, May 23. Staples will compete in the triple jump on Saturday, May 25 at 6 p.m. ET. Start lists for each event can be found HERE. Full schedule of events can found HERE.

Mateya Haintz - Hammer Throw
Mateya Haintz will compete at the NCAA East Regional for the third time in her collegiate career and second time as a Falcon. Haintz won the MAC title in the hammer throw, recording her second medal in the hammer. Haintz has placed in the top three in all outdoor meets this season. Haintz recorded her season best at the Blizzard Buster, recording a 195' 0" mark (59.44m). Her performance at the Blizzard Buster placed her 31st in the NCAA East first round and third in the MAC.
Bianca Staples - Triple Jump
Bianca Staples will compete at the NCAA East Regional for the first time in her career. Staples earned silver in the triple jump at the MAC Outdoor Championships, recording a 41' 3.75" (12.59m) mark. Staples recorded a personal best at the Clark Wood Open in the triple jump, with a 41' 7.25" (12.68m) mark, placing her at second. Staples' performance at Clark Wood placed her at 35th in the NCAA East first round and places her first in the MAC, in the triple jump.
NCAA Regional and Championship Information
Per NCAA qualifying guidelines, 48 athletes are accepted for each individual event at the East and West First Round events. The hammer throw and triple jump will consist of four flights, with 12 athletes in each. To qualify for the NCAA Championship, an athlete must finish in the top 12 of their event at the NCAA Regional. Resulting in 24 qualifiers overall, per event. This format will be the same for the hammer throw and triple jump. The NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships will take place from June 5-8 at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.
