Four Falcons Receive USTFCCCA All-Academic Awards

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) has announced its All-Academic student athletes. The Falcons were well represented on the list, with four student-athletes (Mateya Haintz, Jenna Lucas, Katherine Mendenhall and Bianca Staples) earning All-Academic honors.

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) has announced its All-Academic student athletes. The Falcons were well represented on the list, with four student-athletes (Mateya Haintz, Jenna Lucas, Katherine Mendenhall and Bianca Staples) earning All-Academic honors.

This marks the 12th consecutive year that at least one Bowling Green track & field athlete was named USTFCCCA All-Academic and the most in one year since 2021. The Falcons also had the second-most student-athletes represented of any school in the Mid-American Conference.

Haintz, a mathematics major, returned to the All-Academic team from 2023 as she posted a 3.61 GPA this year. In the circle, the graduate student won her second consecutive MAC title in the hammer throw.

Lucas is a systems engineering major who had a 3.95 GPA during her sophomore campaign. On the track, her season was highlighted by a third-place finish in the pentathlon at the MAC Indoor Championships.

Mendenhall carried a 3.64 GPA as a senior as an individualized studies major who got seventh in the heptathlon at the MAC Outdoor Championships.

Staples, an exercise science major, earned a 3.89 GPA as a sophomore and placed second at the Indoor and Outdoor MAC Championships in the triple jump.

To qualify for an NCAA Division I All-Academic Athlete, one must sport a cumulative GPA of 3.25, have completed at least two semesters or three quarters at the nominating institution and must have finished the season ranked in the top 96 in any championship individual event, or in the top 48 in any championship relay event during the indoor season and/or in the top 48 for the multi-events in the region during the outdoor season.
