Patterson and Franklin Sprint to Valiant Performances at Michigan Invitational
FINAL RESULTS ANN ARBOR, Mich. –
The BGSU track & field squad descended upon Ann Arbor and competed at the Michigan Invitational at the seven-year-old, world-class and spacious U-M Indoor Track Building. The names of Morgan Patterson and Kiersten Franklin echoed through the building for Bowling Green like those of Michigan legends Charles Woodson and Tom Brady, as the two juniors had the best overall performances for the Falcons.
Patterson finished second in the 60m hurdles (8.55), setting a new PR and improving upon her top 10 performer time in program history. She also was the runner-up in the long jump (5.67m), which was just 0.02m from winning.
Franklin placed third in the 60m for a season-best mark of 7.52, while coming in sixth in the 200m (24.37). With that time, she became the fourth best performer in the event in program history.
Christabelle Obi finished sixth in the 60m hurdles (9.05) as well, and Alexis Parchman notched seventh in the 60m dash (7.67). Kiera Bonds (7.73) barely missed qualifying for the 60m dash finals.
What followed were the longer track events on a banked track, as Michigan boasts one of just seven hydraulic banked 200-meter tracks on university campuses in the country.
Running on the raised curves on the blue, springy track with maize guard rails, four Falcons competed in the 400m with Reagan Campbell (58.78) was the best finisher placing 11th.
Raegan Burkey ran the 800m (2:19.15), while Alexis Parchman was BG's top placer in the 200m (24.71 – 10th) for a new PR.
As for the throws, Trista Fintel came in third in both the weight throw (19.14m) and shot put (15.46m) after competing the day before at Ashland's Jud Logan Light Giver Invitational.
Kami Baker (16.62m) and Grace Bradtmueller (15.67m) notched top 10 marks in the weight throw, while Lane Anderson (13.38m) placed ninth in the shot put.
Along with Patterson, Kiera Bonds (5.58m) and Sabrina Imes (5.13m) competed in the long jump, with Bonds notching sixth. Imes (11.83m) and Bianca Staples (11.76m) placed fourth and sixth, respectively, in the triple jump.
