BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -- Six Falcon track & field athletes will have a chance to do something special in the River City over the coming weekend.

They will attempt to have the most BGSU representation at the NCAA Championships ever as they compete at the NCAA East Regional at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville for a chance to qualify.

The meet will take place at UNF's Hodges Stadium on Thursday, May 29 and Saturday, May 31. The West Regional is set for the same days at Texas A&M.

Since regional competition began in 2003, BGSU has the most individual event qualifiers in the event in program history (2021 had seven but four qualified on a relay).

The top 48 marks in each event automatically qualify for NCAA Regionals, with East and West representation. The top 12 individuals competing in both regionals in each event will qualify for the NCAA Championships.

Trista Fintel leads the pack, as she qualified in both the shot put and hammer throw. The graduate transfer from the University of Findlay won both events at the MAC Championships to earn MAC Most Outstanding Field Performer and achieved her top qualifying mark in the shot put (16.38m) at the meet. She also notched her best hammer throw at Hillsdale's Last Chance Meet (63.48m) the week prior.

Both marks rank in the top 25 on the regional qualifying list entering the meet.

Juniors Sabrina Imes and Bianca Staples will lead the Falcons in the triple jump. Imes' qualifying leap of 12.77m at the MAC Championships won her the event, helped her earn first-team All-MAC honors and placed her 39th on the regional list. Staples, who competed at last year's regional in the event, placed third at the MAC Championships and achieved a qualifying jump of 12.76m at Hillsdale's Last Chance Meet.

Morgan Patterson is the first BGSU long jumper to qualify for regionals. The junior second-team All-MAC honoree leapt to a runner-up finish at the MAC Championships with a mark of 6.17m that ranks 35th on the list.

Katherine Mendenhall also becomes the first Falcon high jumper to earn a qualifying mark. The graduate student, who tied for third in the MAC in the event, achieved her best jump at Hillsdale's Last Chance Meet (1.75m), which is tied for 37th in the region.

Kylee Cubbison will represent BGSU in their lone track event, the 1,500m. The MAC champion in the event and first-team All-MAC performer set the school record at the Jesse Owens Classic with a qualifying time of 4:16.73. She also achieved the 5,000m program record and three indoor records this season.
