Weather Halts BGSU’s Full Completion of the Jesse Owens Classic
COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Bowling Green State University women's track and field team battled through a weather-altered weekend at the Jesse Owens Classic, hosted by Ohio State University at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
The Falcons turned in multiple strong performances before weather disrupted both days of the competition. Friday's schedule was paused due to lightning delays, and Saturday's events were ultimately cut short for BGSU due to continued inclement weather.
Friday Highlights
Despite delays, several Falcons were able to compete on Friday, with notable efforts in hurdles, distance running, and the throws.
- Christabelle Obi led a quartet of Falcons in the 400-meter hurdles, finishing ninth with a time of 1:02.32.

DaMya Barker (1:04.20, 18th), Sydney Burrs (1:05.20, 22nd), and Alexsia Davis (1:07.58, 27th) also completed the event.

In the 1500 meters, Kylee Cubbison broke the school record with a third-place finish in 4:16.73. She broke her own record of 4:19.19 set few weeks ago at the Bryan Clay. Rachael Hoover followed with a top-10 time of 4:24.84 (10th), while Reese Reaman (4:37.78, 38th) and Emma Hellwege (4:46.82, 51st) also competed.

In the field events, Jenna Lucas threw 33.10 meters in the javelin to finish 12th.

Trista Fintel landed a throw of 49.26 meters in the hammer, finishing 20th.
Saturday Highlights
Before weather halted their participation, BGSU student-athletes continued to deliver competitive performances, especially in the jumps and discus.
- In the triple jump, Sabrina Imes earned a second-place finish with a mark of 11.98 meters, while Bianca Staples placed third at 11.78 meters.
- Staples also competed in the high jump inside French Fieldhouse, tying for 13th with a height of 1.65 meters, matched by Katherine Mendenhall.
- In the discus, Sierra Brinson placed eighth (40.72m), with Trista Fintel close behind in ninth (40.45m).
- Grace Bradtmueller (38.88m), Emma Hoffman (37.64m), Karma Williams (34.02m), and Sierra Podolan (33.54m) rounded out the field, placing 12th, 18th, 26th, and 27th, respectively.
Next Up
The Falcons will continue their outdoor season with a split-squad weekend. BGSU is set to compete at the Northeast Ohio Open, hosted by Akron, on May 8-9, while another group heads to Ann Arbor, Mich., for the Len Paddock Open on May 9.
